Can't seem to buy a decent set of boots anymore 😡

Firmly in Altberg camp - Altberg peacekeeper P3 boots for work (cappers). Superb. But, let's be realistic, they are 200 knicker. I work in areas that need cappers, but with my job I also need to look clean and smartish. Altbergs clean up smashing.

Seem to be worth the investment 2 years later.

I'm not a boot snob, but, always remembered the saying "don't scrimp on shoes or mattresses - you are either in one or the other."

Years ago I had a pair of Hi tec Trail which were light walking boots- not waterproof- but brilliant boots - their cheapest at that time - but sadly, no longer in production.

Every pair of Karrimors I've tried over the last 10 years have failed very quickly.

I've been impressed with Dewalt Bolster boots for work too - but about 8 years ago, the black leather ones changed to a fabric tongue and the leather had some kind of coating on it, that meant attempts to clean them ended up in a worse mess. Guess the brown ones may be better now.

I've found Rigger boots are lethal if driving a car - the top of them can get wedged under the plastic trim under the steering wheel. That was a scary event for me - I nearly layed an egg.

As others have said Dutch, German, Austrian army Meindls. 300 quid boots that can be had for around 100 quid in surplus stores. Bought mine from my local surplus store, both mine and my wife's hadn't been used 90 quid for each pair.

Cheaper if you want worn ones. But my local only deals in super grade or unissued.

Scarpa Terra GTX for the wet and hard use days , in the woods , proper hikes .

Merrell MOAB 3 GTX for lighter days ,

Viper Sneaker side zip boot ( extremely cheap but like a pair of slippers ) for in the shop / mooching about .
I bought a pair of Scarpa GTX in October 2019 - lovely boot, still going strong, still waterproof (gave them the full Graingers treatment before using them and, have topped it up frequently). Also have the Merrell MOAB - very comfortable but stopped being waterproof after they just fell out of warranty.

I'm in the same boot..so called walking and hiking shoes that are made for the occasional ramble rather than daily use.
Far too many seams and different materials involved, saying that I bought a pair of Brasher Country masters some years ago, they had previously only made a narrow fitting and when the new ones came in wide..I jumped.
Go Outdoors replaced them twice then refunded me, appalling quality- the leather roughed up, the rands lifted and the GTX/ Event leaked. The heel? Two pieces upper and heel but joined giving a single layer, gave as much support as Ugg boots.

I used to wear Merrels, probably MOAB 2 but the linings made my feet sweat badly, they could have gone walking on their own after a couple of months.

I'd love to buy Scarpa or simlar and quite liked the look of Bestard..but working on the returns department at Sports Direct I got to handle a few of both and may have tried on a couple of pairs.
Cheaper models were for occasional wear and the top end were mostly too narrow.

I,ve had the Same pair of boots for 25 years, in that time they have only had 3 new soles and four new uppers , and 4 pairs of boot laces, still going strong .
alright Trigger 😁

Could never work out how people keep boots and shoes for so long.. unless they didn't wear them as often as they reckoned.
The only footwear I have that has lasted over a decade are my 9.99 wellies

I've had haix that have lasted years... My lowa didn't last too long buy they was desert boots so can't blame the brand for how I used them very comfortable... Currently on altbergs and they're unbelievably comfortable.... Have Solomons for hiking and they don't seem great (now made by adiddas)

And muck boots for wellies that have lasted around 3 years

For the current army boots, like the Altbergs and the AKU Pilgrims, both FB marketplace and fleabay are good - expect to pay £80 for a new pair.

You sussed .

I don't know if Brasher boots are still on the go but they're really long wearing. I have had a pair of Air 8's for donkeys years still good. Alternatively get a pair of Altbergs, British made, lots of width fittings, tough. You will need to break them in though. Not sure if Aigle still make boots but they're excellent too (mine are 23 years old and still waterproof)

Sadly, Brasher aren't what they once were Cammie after being bought under the Berghaus label - the soles tend to wear out very quickly now and the leather cracks far too easily if not looked after

For general wear and find extremely comfy, much more comfier than typical Nike trainers, the NF glennclyfe shoes . Had the black ones about a year, as they are surrounded in rubber it guards against rocks etc. so comfy I bought a back up pair in a different colour

Work ones are getting on for 5yr easy, these have also been excellent. Once worn or I want a change, they get demoted to work trainers (basically to an from work , I’m in work boots for 12hrs, my feet are not going into new trainers after that 😜)
Salewa and again excellent from day one and well protected .

Or if want to look a complete 🔔🔚 get a pair of these bad boys 😂

They will last several generations 😂 not because of how well made, no one would dare wear in public 😂

But seriously, most now and way of how much stuff costs, I find what you could get half decent for £40 or so a few year back, are £80+ now.

Brasher were great boots but they were bought over and quality went downhill.

They were comfortable boots as they were made on the same last style as trainers . I met Chris once at a W.L Gore event and he spoke about the boots.

Merrels have always done well for me, but for shooting I wear a pair of Seeland stalking boots that I've had for a few years now. The waterproof leather still keeps my feet dry, they're light weight, and comfy.

Just bought my third pair of karrimor, never had any problems. My last pair lasted two years, wore them every day for everything including hft in the mud.
My wife's just bought me a new pair of wellies for Christmas, I think she just wants to see me in rubber😍

Most interesting. I buy NPS Solovair. These are the original Dr Martens . The business split some years ago, Martens went to China Vietnam and Thailand, NPS are made in Northampton. Day and night difference
