Can't seem to buy a decent set of boots anymore 😡

I'm on my 5th pair of Karrimor, no complaints and really comfy - so far. fingers crossed.

I also have a pair of Meindle, Lowa and Anatom.

Anatom are my favs, very comfy for my flippers.

I hate boots where they have tiny holes and pull the aglets off and re-threading nearly impossible. The Anatom have good old D rings.

Narrow feet get Italian
Wide feet get German or Anatom.

I have been researching lightweight/waterproof walking boots with a view to a purchase recently, and Merrell & Salomon are getting good press.

Got a pair of cat boots from go outdoors, happy enough with them so far (6 months of pretty much every day use).

Scarpa Terra GTX for the wet and hard use days , in the woods , proper hikes .

Merrell MOAB 3 GTX for lighter days ,

Viper Sneaker side zip boot ( extremely cheap but like a pair of slippers ) for in the shop / mooching about .

Boots bought years ago is not a guarantee that if you bought them new today you will get the same quality.
Meindl have had a number of incidents where boots did not last one day's use before falling apart. Plenty of threads on other forums .

Military boots are often changed more often than the general public will.

Some may last longer than others.

Look up hydrolysis then choose a pair that won't crumble .

AkU Pilgrim are a great boot. The military ones are not the same as the one you would buy from here .

I have the Military issue ones and had them for years. I got them brand-new on eBay fo £30.

These are a clone of them.

Agreed, I’ve always worn (Hi-Tec) Magnum boots, but the current pair aren’t a patch quality wise compared to previous pairs 🤷🏻‍♂️
I've used magnum steel toe boots for work for years,, until the last pair.
They were the most uncomfortable boots I've ever worn!
Rock hard leather that defied any attempt to soften it.
Got sick of the blisters and binned them at about a month old.
And they were a couple of quid short of £100!!

Using these now

I have some Merrell and they are slippery in the wet.....Salomon are much better.....in my experience

I had the Salomon Adventure 9 n is back when they first moved into hiking boots in the early 90s(?). Absolutely the best boots I've ever had. Laces covered in a side zip spat, which meant you didn't have to fasten them. You foot was held in a mesh sling that tightened around your foot when you did the laces up. Excellent wicking out the cuff n you barely noticed the amount of water in them after a few minutes when you did get it in them. Feet never felt hot or cold, n winter in the lakes n Snowdon in the 9s was just a pair of ordinary every day socks.
The 9s were mountain boots that took step inspiration.
The 7s were were 3 season.
Then Adidas bought them out n their new lines in boots became more shite as they "progressed/improved". After a 2nd or 3rd pair, that was it.
Hopefully, they've improved since

Meindle boots every time. If your feet are narrow, then Salomon or Scarpa.
15 years plus for Meindle leather and cordura with Vibram soles.

Too many pieces of technical fabrics all joined together to make the upper all making many weak spots IMHO...

I used to buy Merrells with Vibram Soles, but recently they just haven’t been as good quality. I now wear Altbergs which are British army issue and I find them really good (except uncomfortable to driver long distances is).

I wear almost nothing but Hi Tec Magnums on my feet. Black, brown, desert, steel toe cap as the situation demands. Some of the later pairs don't seem to have as good soles as they used to (edges breaking off) but they never seem to leak unless there is obvious mechanical damage. Been wearing them for decades so I can lace them up in my sleep, takes less than a minute and I'm out the door.

Boots are a minefield! You ask 10 members opinions and end up with 12 recommendations! :ROFLMAO:
Whatever price point you go for it feels like a huge investment.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

(I've been in love with my Scarpa's just over a year, I got them in a slae, but was still by far the most expensive footware I've ever bought.)

I’ve used Lowa Renegade for years. They get used hard everyday at the farm, winter and summer. They stay waterproof for about a season, then make great boots when it’s dry. Not super light, and mid-priced
