Can a .22 air rifle beat a .22 rimfire at 100yds?

It'll be interesting to see how Tom Gaylord (BB Pelletier) gets on as he starts a new thread in his Pyramidair blog. He is looking to see how accurate air rifles have become and whether they can match or beat a rimfire.
He started today by choosing which rimfire rifle he is going to use and the thread should progress, hopefully daily, as he sets about conducting yet another interesting trial.

Okay—this report series is a crazy one that I don't even know we will even finish. I want to see if a .22 pellet rifle can shoot as good as, or even better than a .22 rimfire rifle at 100 yards.

My rti mora .25 blows my .22lr out the water ... and the .22 barrel i have for the mora is the same ... not shot my .22lr for about 18 months now

As with airguns, there is a lot of variation in .22lr. My Bergara BMR carbon with norma tac subsonics is as good as I’ve seen. My Wife’s HW60 with SX is probably just as good. Either gun with eley or geco ammo couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo!
