Buying from online auction

"managed to keep their collection in person fee unaltered"

I'd send one back being like BITCH WHY IS THERE A FEE AT ALL

The gall to imply they're doing you a favour by not increasing along with delivery fees for some bizarre reason
Bid on their Auctions a couple of times a year but, will be thinking twice now.

Wouldn’t it make more sense not to charge people to collect so it’s an incentive for people to actually attend an auction and save time packing and posting or do they skim money from the postage they charge you as well

Holts must have started doing the collection in the last couple of years, have brought and sold many guns there and never paid to collect; however, have just read this in their T&Cs and this is the only mention I can find of a collection charge

Purchases can also be collected, by appointment, at any of our regular free valuation days for a delivery fee of £10 per invoice. Please see our schedule of forthcoming dates: FREE VALUATION DAYS

Holts send three air rifles combined for £60,
If two or one its still £60,
They are extremely well packed and with paperwork,
They used to let guns won at auction or bought as unsold lots to be picked up gratis from their valuation days and for this service they kept them in storage, got them out for their valuer to take with them on their round trip of several valuation days at several locations, this could be months after the auction, i dont honestly see what is wrong with adding a £10 charge for this,
I presume that their staff make an honest living and being the nature of the game they are in there is a risk factor, ie carrying all sorts of guns around the countryside in a van,
and also,
All the charges are in black and white for all to see before anybody need bid,

Holts used to have a guy that did work for them and he was an RFD but he has not been there for years as far as I now . He just disappeared with some peoples items and at the time no one could get a hold of him.
RichardH was his username on the other place, I just managed to get my cerakoted pro sport action off him before he completely disappeared!
It wasn't just an odd post here and there either, regularly, in the thousands as I recall, as you said worked for Holts on the side, think he had health issues tho

Not disputing that their charges aren't published - it just surprised me how much they'd increased from a couple of auctions prior. They are well packed but, I unwrapped a MK3 to find a fresh nick on the Stock that wasn't in the Auction pics and a Nikko 4 x 28 on an HW80 bent like a banana from being dropped - all part of the risk you take bidding online.

He had a back issue if I remember right and also a bad burn from Bluing chemicals . I know some were trying to find him as he had not just airguns or parts of them belonging to them but licensed firearms parts also , One guy was trying to get his shotgun barrels back.

Holts were getting cheesed with people calling them looking for him.

I’m looking at gun that’s going to be through an online auction tomorrow just wondering if anyone else has and is there anything to know before doing so i know they add their fees and will only post to an rfd is there anything outside that I should know
Remember to add 30% five or take plus approx £60 to pack and ship

Also prepare to be disappointed at what you get, some photos are taken at certain angles for a reason 😉

Had 5 or 6 auctions winds and only 1 was working perfectly, which was a new co2 pistol

Ouch, that's opened up an old wound, I was one of them, a Webley Omega many years ago.

Back on topic, I'm guessing the OP is referring to Harper Field, and he'll have to add on 35% to the bid price. I'm watching a few, but I'm sure everything will go for well over market value once fees have been added on.

Have collected items in person from Holts this week. No £10. Only charge the £10 if you collect from valuation days held at venues around country.
You're lucky, I've got an email from them telling me if I didn't want to pay the P&P, I could collect for £10 but, that was a non-starter travelling from Manchester.

I'm in Harper's today as well on one item and I've been staggered at some of their previous prices with newish guns going for above list price with Commission added on. Another Member mentioned it was French buyers online driving the prices as its still cheaper than them buying at home ?

-Good luck to you both!
Some nice bits in there but nothings that's quite enough to tempt me this time (I might do the weekend shop just to remove any possible chance of casually logging on)...

As has been mentioned make sure you check the power upon collection/reciept.. I bought a sub 12 Rapid from auction that was doing 35 ft lb and a Falcon that was doing 24

For the money it made it wasn’t worth the risk of not knowing what I was buying a little bit more money you could get one somewhere else and know what you’re getting anyway oh well thanks for the advice everyone

Agreed, they do seem to be terribly top heavy; lots going for a considerable amount more than here in the sales section.
