After a long lay off i have decided to buy an air rifle to give myself a little bit more to do in life. I have a budget of around £1000, i am quite happy spending £100 or a £1000 tadge over on the right gun. I have a decent scope and silencer, plus aware i will need a bottle thingy for around £200-250.....

Going for a PCP, whilst i love springers I am starting to get auld, will be mostly range use, so high shot count compared to hunting and after 40-50 shots or so i start feeling it in my shoulder for some reason.....

So mostly range shooting, another consideration i definately want carbine size rifle or smaller still, for convenience so i can discreetly transport it. Whilst I'm not in the hood I'm not living with country aristocracy either! I had a springer HW95k a while ago, probably the most "rifle" like gun i have owned of a number, but it was bloody long, so i bough an HW99 and that just felt like a "toy gun" to me.

My first PCP was that Gamo Phox thing for around £400, i thought it was the absolute dogs' ******** - pellet on pellet, but the shot count around 60 got a bit tiresome down the range. Going to use a single shot tray on my new gun defo.....

So going for a PCP, likely .177 for target shooting primarily, want a cute little compact gun for up to 1k - decent shot count too!

What are your recommendations? From the comfort of your armchairs of course for my midlife crisis rifle :)

Here is the list of stuff I am considering my top choices are;

Now it would be decision made on an Bullpup HW100 with pistol grip, if it was not for the awful shot count, as it fits me like a glove. Not looking at the HW100K etc cos they weight too much.

The NP02 kral is a great fit similarly too and remains towards the top of the list, but you do still hear some horror stories about it. But which gun dont you?

BSA CLX looked a prime candidate but i saw a negative review on youtube where this bloke stripped it and basically demonstrated its not all.......experiences?

The bolt or lever air arms carbines 410s stuff is on my radar too, dont hear much bad said about them?

Webley Nemesis PCP multishot - love how you can collapse it, again costs pennies so can i lose on it?

Any wisdom much appreciated from the learned and knowledgeable!

I bought an Artemis P35 from Bagnall’s. It is compact and light and perfect for me. It did have a couple of problems that cropped up, but they were fixed by @the logun-ator and there‘s been no issues since.

Big Dan’s Airguns gives a great review of the NP02, and it‘s got a massive shot-count, I think.

ATB.

I'm going to toss in something a bit off the wall-

Take a look at a reximex Mito, it's basically a PCP Pistol in it's own fitted brief case which also has a shoulder stock. It has open sights and dovetails for a scope. Magazine fed (2 are supplied) along with a moderator adaptor. It's very accurate and great fun. Then you would have a Pistol and a carbine! Although it's pistol power it'll hold its own to 25yds and perhaps further.
And it's cheap enough so that a 3l Air bottle with it would be well within your budget.

Here's mine

You want a small compact rifle, with a high shot count ? You should be looking at a bottle gun then really.

I have recently bought a BSA Scorpion TS in .22 for long distance shooting and with Rangemaster Sovereign pellets it's a very accurate rifle and consistent even thought it doesn't have a traditional regulator.

But not a rifle for carrying around or easy offhand shooting.

I also have a BSA Ultra SE .177, for threading shots through the woods, in single shot that is very accurate with Rangemaster Sovereign Hunter.

Which is light weight and great for carrying around and offhand shooting.

Edit: and for extra shots a 500cc back pack bottle works a treat.

Get your self along to a local airgun range, shoot a couple of different rifles, see what you like the look off, fits you and feels good. After you’ve tried 6 or so you’ll have a much bet idea. Don’t believe everything you’re told, by sellers or gun owners, no one buys a turd…….

Nice one ill have a look they actually stock it at a local gun dealer :)

I have a bsa clx and am more than happy with it, though the shot count isn't really any good, especially for use at the range, so I'd say you can rule that one out.

+1 for @Barratt66's suggestion, I own it's older brother a Regal HR (bolt action as opposed to nice silky smooth side lever) and FWIW I don't think you could do much better. It ticks most of your boxes if not all. The only fly in the ointment might be the overall length.
If they do a carbine version you're on a winner.
