Just picked up a nearly new BSA Lightning Clx in 177 today, they just seem to be coming about on the second hand market.......
VISCOUS LITTLE F¿¢KERS aren't they, trigger doesn't seem as bad as some people have said, with a quick mess about, got it down to 250g, tiny bit of creep but I think with a polish and there's something left on the adjustment, it will be great.
I might make a heavy barrel shroud to calm it down a bit.
Not sure it needs a tuning kit, no twang at all, I just think it's a bit light for a full power gun to shoot off the bench. Touching 11.5 with pistol Meisterkugeln at 7gr, 11 with FTT.

HNGD mate, i bought 1 on first release day, nice and accurate once barrel leaded in . Not shot mine in a few months, think I need to drag it out

I've just had a quick shoot with 5 different pellets, not great yet but I think I'll get there. I'll clean barrel and bed rifle in a bit, I think I've put more shots through it than the guy I bought it from, he struggled to cock it, Injury or something.

Mine started off liking Barracuda 8, then after about 300 pellets, group opened up, now it prefers Barracuda FT, or did when I last shot it 😅

I reckon my first port of call would be to reduce the spring or remove some preload to get the power down by at least 1 ft/lb. I think any lightweight break barrel over 11ft/lb is going to be lively, but particularly in .177

Are they still over sprung, with a tiny port to try to compensate?

From my limited research from when I bought an SE the harsh recoil was resolved by opening up the port and putting a weaker spring in.

My SE rattled itself to bits after 2 days so didn't have a chance to rectify it before it went back in exchange for a HW99.

I'm not gokng to mess with anything that is not easily reversible, I'll wait for some Youtubers or our very own Mr TBT to do something.

Interested in this post guys.
I’m looking at the BSA lightning CLX and can’t decide upon it or a HW95.
I do some garden shooting , some at the range and I’d like to try some hunting in the future.
I’d love to buy a British gun but very aware there’s a difference in buying with my head or my heart.

I'm a target shooter and collector or spring air rifles, I shoot them off against each other.
If you want a British gun then the choices are limited, this or TX 200 basically.
I am not disappointed in any of my Weihrauchs, I'm struggling to get any sort of accuracy out of this, tried 8 diffent pellets so far.
It fine as part of a collection but if you are wanting a do it all gun with accuracy, go German. My HW99 is my control rifle that I shoot all others against, not many beat it and that's £300 brand new.

Get a 95, in .22 - it’s in a different league.

BSA Goldstars are outstandingly good in my .177 CLX.

Super accurate rifle with the right pellets. A real match for my HW95.

Actually, Goldstars are on the money in all of my rifles. .177 or .22, Springer or PCP.
Aren't they just FTTs?
I haven't had any real luck with any pellets, going to do extensive testing when scope comes back from Pellpax.

Supposedly they are but I find them better than FTT’s. Maybe different lead or slightly different size.

They are quite tight in the barrel which I think gives consistent performance.

The only pellets which come close in my experience are FX Premium pellets.

Quite a few just a shade off from these, notably QYS.
