I have acquired another of these, It was at a local auction and not expensive! Anyway, I now have 2 of them, both are hard to cock and not expelling pellets with a lot of oomph! Before I take the plunge and dismantle them am I correct in thinking that WW produces a kit that potentially transforms these?
Any advice on how I should proceed with these would be very much appreciated.

Note to self - 'stop looking at local auction sites!!!'
 
Airsporter, like most BSAs of this vintage, are very simple inside. I have 2 comments if you’ve not stripped this type before - make sure you’ve made a suitable block for the pointy trigger block assembly to fit into, if you use a spring compressor (which is probably advisable). Secondly, when it’s apart, make sure that the large bolt that holds the threaded cup to the pointy trigger block is tight, and has the locking washer in place. Otherwise during future disassembly you may find the cylinder won’t unscrew, as the threaded cup bit just keeps spinning around. What I’m saying becomes obvious when you have it apart and can see what’s what.

Thanks for that, I think I need to add a block of wood to my spring compressor with an appropriately cut hole?
 
Are the Welsh Willy kits the only option?

The bottom one was acquired yesterday and the woodwork is an interesting combination of colours, needs a good strip and refinish.
More interestingly the top one has the 2 pairs of scope rail, whilst the bottom one has regular rails. When did BSA make the change?
 
The serial number should tell you what it is, although BSA don't always follow a standard in terms of features, etc...you may have a Mk 2.5 !

Lovely old guns, the Mk2 is what started it all for me in the sport almost 50 years ago. My Grandad's Airsporter....it's still going, he sadly isn't any more :(
 
Have looked up the serial numbers. The top one in the pic with the pair of scope rails is GD so 59-65, the bottom one is GE so 65-67 with the full scope rail, so possibly the change was made around 65?
 
I picked up my first Airsporter just a couple of weeks ago from Melbourne gun fayre. It wasn't planned but I've heard so much about these that it was rude not to at least try one. I was told this was a proper .22 so needed to use something like the Marksman 5.6mm

First 5 shot group. (the shot at 1 o'clock being the very first shot taken) It caught me out a little as the trigger was rudimentary and heavy. Thereafter, the accuracy achievable wasn't too bad considering the scope cost me just £1 from the stall a few doors down.

Surprisingly, it was fairly healthy at 10.48ftlb.

I think the plan for mine is to strip down, degrease, relube, rebuild and retest. If power still sub 9ftlbs I will consider installing kits.
I think there is potential with the stock on the latest acquisition after a strip down.
