A couple of my perms have become a hot-bed of mole activity and the owners are getting increasingly annoyed and upset with digging activities of these little creatures and the volume of them.

With this in mind and keen to be as useful as I can be to them, i broached the idea of looking into "branching out" of my usual pest control duties and if it were possible and feasible for me to do so, would there be interest. Needless to say, this was met with the highest levels of enthusiasm! So now I'm looking into it.

I'm a complete newbie to catching moles and so far my education has been limited purely to the numerous youtube tutorials. I'm pretty sure there's going to be some level "expert" mole removers on here so wondered if anyone has any general advice or handy hints to give in this area?

Also, looking for advice and effective methods of seasoning/de-scenting the traps prior to use that you've found effective?

Thanks in advance

I've always had success with scissor type traps, but others will come along to say they prefer putangue or tunnel types. Any new traps are buried under loose soil for about a week before use.

A bit off beat and a domestic problem. I asked about it on here and got some good pointers. Only a 3 page thread.

https://airgunforums.co.uk/threads/...imeter-fence-do-the-sonic-gizmos-work.109972/

I was going for a sonic emitter-scarer but was quickly steered towards trapping.

Find the runs between the mounds by probing, dig hole into the top of tunnel, set scissor trap into hole and close off around the trap so no light gets through but the trap can work.

Bagged the mole within a few days of setting the trap. Could tell the trap had been sprung. So far no repeat of moles escaping the neighbours garden.
Plenty of pest control youtubers showing various styles of traps in use.
Seems to be quite subjective towards trap style some favour one over others.
I went with scissor traps as easy to get locally in store and cheap.

Went from knowing nothing to setting a trap and curing the problem and learning a lot in a short space of time, and with some general pointers from the forum (y)

Thanks, a few video's i watched suggested burying the traps for a bit. seems simple enough (y)

Cheers @GamoGat I'll have a read through (y)

This can be a very interesting pest control, I like scissor, trap on the outside of the lawn , meadow and make sure you get main rud boi, road boy, that's what my father used to tell me, get a stick and poke to hopefully go into a run where they come, and you will catch very quick, the mole tunnel run will be as smooth as any thing if it's the main rud🤔, I used to do a lot of mole catch and was very successful.

Regarding scent on traps.
My research showed this to be variable with some in favour and some not bothered.

I did hose mine down and left it to weather on the lawn for a few days while i probed around to find and mark out the runs with tent pegs.

I can't say if it had any positive or negative effect, i did handle the trap wearing gloves when i set it. Give my trap every chance it can get.

Most likely my mole had a large run of tunnels and didn't come back into my garden for days.

Foller the uhmtie-tumps and keep a troshing 😊

Putanges are cheap and effective. Fencing wire cut into 6" lengths is adequate to stake them.
Kitchen spoon to clean soil from run.
A loop of coloured cord helps to locate traps and also to lift and replace turf when trap inspected.
Probe can be fashioned from 6 mm reinforcing bar and a sharpen border spade will lift out turf.
Where soil won't hold together, side of 6 pint milk carton will support over trap.

When it's as wet as this set your traps on the higher ground , which traps you use is personal I prefer the duffus type but they all work when set properly. You will learn as you go as in most things it's not a good thing for people with bad backs 😂

i trap loads of moles
Look up flat pac mole
Company don’t buy cheap traps

Cheers for all the advice all, greatly appreciated and some notable tips (y)

It certainly doesn't seem like it's going to be beyond me so i'll have to get looking around at traps and prices etc

This solution is amazing. Must read application instructions
What's it got to do with moles or are you just trying to flog it ? Homer face palm

Personally I think it's a genius idea! Everybody knows that moles only live underground because they are scared it might rain.

If I waterproof them, they'll be happy to wander around the surface more, then I can just shoot them which is way easier than trapping them! :ROFLMAO:

My Grandfather used to catch them around a little village called Wisborough Green as a youth back at the turn of the century and sell them to his school teacher for 1p each so she could have a moleskin coat made..✔️
👊

His prefab cottage had more chiming clocks and stuffed animal heads than I could count on my fingers and toes.. the beds and geese seemed twice as tall as me, the chickens lived in an old vintage car and were fed with grain scattered from an old ww1 helmet..

They used to call him the Bee Master and he was on Blue Peter twice.. ✔️
