Bradford Stalker ... Never again

Small turnover expensive business model. Unfortunately a large tin of lead pellets is as close to £20 now as it doesn't make much difference.
My local RFD has just retired and nobody wants to run the business on I assume. The best local RFD is now at the clay ground.
It's an expensive game .

Let your feet do the talking, no customers going in to get their shirt lap lifted with them.

Just got in from Bradford Stalkers feeling a bit miffed. It's a local RFD I've pumped a fair bit of cash into over the last 20 years but I can firmly say that was my last visit.

When I buy new, I always go there and pay a small premium which I never minded as I like to support local.

If I go for a browse, I always buy at least a tin of over priced pellets and take the premium on the chin. Almost a contribution if you like for having the facility to be able to see my potential next new toy up close. No problem with that at all (and dont want to be one of those internet quoting lurkers fingering everything with no intention of any purchase.)

Today I had a 2 minute browse, nothing of interest as such, well there was a second hand HW30 but it was £70 more than a new one in any other RFD.

On my way out went to pay my 'contribution' and grabbed a tin of 300 .25 hades....£18.50 or £185 a sleeve!!!!

I looked online in the car park afterwards as this seemed ridiculous, and without shopping around at all clicked on ramsbottoms, £12.39 a tin or £115.98 a sleeve.

£69.02 difference per sleeve of pellets is absolutely absurd. I don't mind chipping a few quid as I always have done, but £69? They can sod right off!

Hi matey I always used to prefer Braddy Stalkers to Bagnalls due to location (easier to get to and easier parking) but Baggy's new gaff is in a much better location with its own car park so a lot easier to call in there now.

We all pay for our fun. But even if some desire to or must use very heavy pellets, we all pull the trigger and see a result. I'm just back from the range (too many wind gusts) and had fun with a .177 pistol shooting H&N Elites at £4.00 for a tin of 500. (But Baracuda 8's were much more accurate at £8.50 for 500. save the heavy pellets for when it's needful?

I've shopped there when passing, I am fairly local but if i have needed reloading consumables I have drove up to buy them.

I would have gone back in and politely said has there been a pricing mistake on these? And just give the example you found, how they decide to act from there on in would then determine my continued custom.
I think I would have done the same too. Be polite about it and then see what their response is like. If It wasn't helpful perhaps with an offer to refund you the extra you'd been charged I'd tell them they've just lost a customer who'd put a lot of money their way over the years and would certainly advise others to shop elsewhere. That's a third again on top of a typical price - robbery!

I went in for the first time a few weeks ago. I like the new place.

Not forgetting that JSR is not a bricks and mortar concern and carries a relatively narrow and defined type of stock, air enthusiasts springs to mind;).

That said. Having visited and purchased from Bradford Stalker he seems to have a broad and very hardware heavy amount of equipment appealing to all shooters so maybe, just maybe, air consumables is not where the turnover/margin is?

Coming back to JSR. I remember when his original shop was a stone's throw from my birth home in West Yorkshire. Guns, scopes, pellets and accessories were all sold alongside washing machines, irons, long playing records and ladies beauty enhancement products. Lots of pellets were bought as was a couple of Sharps Innovas and BSA Airsporter Centenary followed by few games of prize bingo next door before getting on the bus to my grandma's for crumpets toasted over a coal fire and a mug of builders tea.

Word of caution here folks , Pellet prices ( and other things) are going through the roof ! Old stock can be sold cheaper but New stock is not going to kept similar . We need the retailers to stay in Business , why not as the retailers why they have gone up ?
Just yesterday i found some field target trophy while having a tidy in the gun room £10.25 for 500 , i am now paying around £16 and over for 500 decent pellets ! Two dealers i have visited are out of stock on airgun pellets full stop !
Now then we have so many gun shops packing up ... Many of us are going to be to going for long drives or paying costly carriage costs, so lets start asking your local dealer about the situation for clarification.
This is only going to get worse if we don't support the local dealers . Have a look at how much fuel the drive to further away dealers might add up .

They are a total rip off merchants i stopped using them a long time back "when they were in the old shed type of building" i cant understand how they are still operating with the amount of bad things you hear about them --if a good shop was to open near by they could take all the business with very quickly i whish i had the funds to open one ---they are far over priced and also over rated as being a good shop --what they have is the market corned --they are smaller RFDs that operate much better but are small and ae limited in what stock they have but when asked will get you whatever you need ---anyone needing a good RFD google B H firearms --most gun repairs section 1-2 stuff and section 5

One RFD I visited charged £22 per 500 177 no matter what they were, good ones though like JSB.

Another RFD said after I said phew how much (£22/500 QYS). He doesn't do mail order. He said I'm saving you postage, never been back.
I don't mind paying a bit more but I refuse to be ripped off.
If he was a pound over or so I'd have gone back regular.
Wolfman is £6 less and no postage.

Another local up here it’s £25 a tin of .22 jsb, I paid £12 a tin for my strattons online and £14.49 for the jsb rs. Pretty much half price. I’ll support local where I can but some prices are crazy, I bought a best fittings extended QR adapter the other day up here. £20, if I went to direct fittings and ordered online it was £15 including delivery.

Given your location I could take a good guess at who - I was in that shop about a month back as when walking past I'd seen a 2nd-hand gun in the window.
By the time I was back in town, it had gone, bit they showed me some others. I texted a pal who was interested in such types of gun - seems the shop was asking around £20 more for a used basic model than the new RRP for the next grade up!

Yes mate im all for supporting your local shop to help keep them open but when they and taking the your hand off and come back for your wrist --that's not on --cant even say but they might have rent to pay --not these merchants the building is there own and there own land --they just a set of greedy -----ers

I always think if the guys online are making profit on pellets at £15 a tin then at £25 it’s just greed. I understand overheads but some online guys have shops too. I don’t mind paying a little over to have the shop here for us and I use them for rfd transfers too but I bulk buy pellets so I’m getting almost double the amount for my money.
