Big thick rope with bangers zip tied to it. Light the rope and chuck it in the field, rope smoulders and sets off the bangers like gunshots every half hour or so.
Edit: just to be clear, i'm talking about a comercial product, not DIY instructions for attaching random explosives to ropes

Ah yes they are loud. I worked with a carpenter last year and he used one. It made you jump out of your skin but didn’t affect him, he was deaf as a post!

I’ve had something of a similar problem so it’s given me cause for thought too.
I’ll hang a few noisy targets myself and put the wind up them as I get a little practice.

A word of warning . Some old Blank firing guns were banned some years back.
Just incase some one finds one of the banned ones .

What you need is rope bangers ( think you could still get them). Rope with big bangers 
inserted along it. Spark the end up hang it in a tree and your away. Used to bang every 10 mins and a fair bit of smoke too.
We used to use them to keep the pigeons moving while doing crop protection.

Could you not just feed them with a select mix for finches, at the end of the day they have to eat! OK it's going to cost, or maybe iam talking crap as usual lol
