Found this pic while doing a clear out.
This is my Brother realising Blade the rottie did not like the fact he put his arm around him. Blade is making a very deep growl, Had to tell brother to move his arm before things went south.
Blade was runt of a litter and no one kind of wanted him. A work mate told me about him as he knew by that time in my life i had rescued 16 dogs.
I would be told about Dogs being mistreated and would visit current owner.A few choice words later i would walk out of the house with the dog.
Blade was in such a bad condition Vet thought he was a cross between a rottie and maybe a whippet type dog.
He had been fed on half a tin of wet dog food a day, Not been wormed and was covered in fleas. He was 16 weeks old and a walking skeleton. Was housed in a make shift kennel outside .The slightest noise and he would jump out of his skin. The so called breeder had been putting the boot in i think.
Took many many months just to get him to relax around familly etc.
In the pic he is 4 years old, Built like a tank with a coat like quick Silver.
I would take him for walks and because of his mistrust of people he would not allow anyone near us.As long as they were out of arms reach they were ok.
Told my Bro dont get too close, He didnt listen and Blade let him know :D.
He was a wonderful Dog and had a heart of gold. I can Honestly say Blade would put his life on the line to protect his Familly.
Still get teary eyed when i see pics of him. He had a good life with us though and is much missed.

Ps
There is always a ps with me haha.
Last dog wife and I rescued was a Jack Russel called Honey=Puppy Farm. She lived to the grand old age of 17 and died exactly one year after my wife passed on the very same Date. 12 July 2022.

He’s got a good “what do you think you’re doing?” sort of look on his face 🙂

Runts can definitely turn out great. One of the cats I’ve got at the moment was the runt and to be honest he was a bit weird looking. He was naughty too and his mum had chewed off his whiskers. Now he’s a champion ratter and rabbiter and the vet described him as “the most perfect example of a hunting cat she had ever seen” when he went for shots. He’s also a massive softy loves my daughter and loves my dogs. Curls up with them

So sorry for your loss mate.
People who dont have dogs miss out on so much in life. They are far more intelligent than givin credit for and as such are part of the family. We grieve for that very reason/

He was a sound looking dog mate, good on you for rescuing mistreated hounds too👌
Thank youThe problem is folk dont select the right breed for them. They go out and buy a dog without researching the needs of the dog.
See loads in march time, A pup bought for xmas and wrong breed for the home turns into a unwanted pup.

Runts have a really bad start in life and as such when in a caring loving home they outshine their siblings i think.

This is me in a former life with my dog Duke, He was a Giant Schnauzer (on the left in the picture), on patrol with one of my colleagues who was working a German Shepherd. It was all for a press release for a local borough news paper.

This was Duke a couple of years later in our back garden where we used to live before my first wife and I divorced.

When I stepped off the dog section I also kept the my dog, he was a cracking family pet and was great with the kids. When we got divorced i couldn't take him with me and had to get him rehomed. It took a while but I found a lovely couple out towards Swindon who took him on, they gave him his own bedroom and did some obedience competitions with him and won prizes, this is a photo they sent me of duke resting at home.
Duke 3.webp

All this happened back in 1990'ish so he'll be long gone but he was a good lad. He stood 30" at the shoulder and tip the scales at 110lb's.
