sorry if this has been covered but i finished work early today so thought i go down the range to pass some time with my mate and he just bought new bipod for his air rifle and his was facing backwards and mine was so we couldnt agree

I always face mine out towards the end of the barrel but if having it facing backwards works for him then I don't see how it matters

Can't see it making any difference in fact if your shooting off a thin bench having the legs facing back might help

Depends on the bipod. My one folds toward the muzzle ,If I did it the other way they would fold when you put forward pressure onto the legs.

Plus it will leave room on the forestock when folded.

Straight, or forward (dependent upon the type of bipod). That said, something properly stable like an Accu-tac, with locking legs and a solid mounting attachment such as Pic/Weaver will be just as fine 'backwards' as it is forwards. Whether or not it makes for a sufficiently stable platform for you i.e. elminating/absorbing movement in your aim is another story.

Forward as you should be leaning into the rifle on shooting, if its backwards then it's going to fold in on you ending up with a muzzle in the ground.
I’ve seen this happen , went forward off the bench onto concrete, turned out quite expensive, Mk4 Daystate 🙄

Like the man said that way you can lean into the shot without the risk of it folding up ---this also works best when using a centre fire

Typically forwards so you can lean into it for stable shots. Other way round and it could interfere with slings or hit your stock when folded.

As already said some designs have different locking mechanisms but for traditional sprung folders like Harris always forwards.
