Here is a basic idea to allow rats to feed on bait, while thinking they are completely hidden.

It's just a slab of wood, supported by some fence post off cuts, with a single layer bin bag over it.
The rat is not visible with NV, but obvious with thermal.

Good idea, especially where the rats are wary and skittish. All you can do is give it a try.

First version has been out there for month now, I kept having to add more weight due to the landowner's German shepherd lifting it, to take the bait.
Two concrete blocks on it now.
There are very few at my perm, so that has been hard to test, but the odd ones that are seen now, only settle under that cover.
