On Monday afternoon, Countryway Gunshop advertised a Gamo GX-40 rifle package in the trade section on here at a great price. On Tuesday morning I called them and ordered one. No problems there. It went smoothly and they were really easy to deal with. They’re in Kent and I’m in Stockport so I needed an RFD transfer. When I mentioned this they told me it wasn’t a problem but that their local Parcelforce depot had stopped collecting from them for the time being due to strikes and the time of year and it would probably be early next year before it got to me 😕. I gave them all the details they needed for the transfer and paid for everything. I then resigned myself to the long wait. Today I got a call from A. Branthwaite Gunsmiths who I’d decided to use to receive the rifle for me. I thought it was to tell me that Countryway had been in touch to make the arrangements but no, it was to tell me that the rifle had arrived at their shop 😁😁😁😁. It took about 28 hours between ordering it and me trying it out in the back garden.

Thank you to both of them and as I’m a happy chap, I’ll even say thanks to Parcelforce. They do get it right sometimes.

Live right near and used A B Branthwaites for a transfer, really nice bloke and helpful, unlike CGR who wanted £95 to transfer a sub 12 airgun.😱

Happy new gun day mate 🙂

I only got back into airguns this year and have bought most of my stuff from members on here but I have used both CGR and Branthwaites once each before. I haven't done enough business with either of them to build any sort of rapport so didn't expect any favours from them. I originally asked Countryway to send it to CGR as they are a few minutes drive closer to me but I called them and they wanted £35.00 to handle it. I'm not against anyone making a profit but I thought that was a little bit steep so I callled Branthwaites. The bloke that answered was really helpful, asked a few questions and quoted me £25.00. Only a tenner less but his attitude seemed friendlier too. I called Countryway back and changed RFD with them. Now Branthwaites will be first choice for anything I want in future. For the sake of £10.00 less, they're likely to get much more back in repeat business.

You've done the right thing mate, CGR do cheap pellets and that's the only reason I went back to them, been treated like I'm a leper a couple of times before even though I was spending serious money.
More shotty, rifle place imo and totally money orientated.
Branthwaites wanted 45 for me to rfd down south, cgr 95 saying they would have to package it themselves and other complete ********. 🤬

Countryways isn't my local but it's near my work so they get my business, if they haven't got what you want then they'll order it ASAP, and if they can't get it then nobody else can!
Big stock, good deals and also the odd cat mooching about to stroke while you wait.

Thank you Steve. I personally made sure the Parcelforce driver took your rifle to get it delivered before xmas. Unfortunately they are still refusing to take deliveries, but as this was a new rifle you had brought from us, i chased the driver out the shop and made sure he took this one.

Thank you to everyone else for their kind words as well.

Paul

The owner of Countryway now run by his lad, are bang on the ball. they also try to employ specialists - the CF Rifle guy is a very experienced CF shooter, the airgun guys are into airguns, the man himself is a shotgun fella ..................

My 22 GX 40 likes FTT (5.51s are a tad tighter than 5.53's), and on advice from shop bought from, did not mess with barrel support - it couldn't shoot tighter and there really was no messing about required just pellet selection after a from new barrel clean
It's also the only new pcp I've ever bought that was 'full power' ie 11 +, but won't go over with anything, unlike more expensive rifles I had most of which topped out at 10 ftlbs with heavies ......and took a back and forth process to have them set correctly

CGR is my local RFD, 5 minutes away but I won't use it. Found them really unhelpful and rude. Branthwaites on the other hand have always been brilliant and I regularly recommend them. Much friendlier and a lot more helpful.
The only gun I bought from CGR developed a fault (within 2 months) and rather than repair or replace it their advice was to go on YouTube and fix it myself.
I've not bought so much as a pellet from them since and nor will I.
