Hi all got a couple of slots on my fac .22 and .25 . Never shot a .25 and wondered what the best power was ? I have an old super 10 on fac in .22 had for a while back when fac werent that popular . Also should I buy a chronograph seen some that are cheap as chips online are they any good ?

What power all depends on what, where, distance and ammo you are using.
I have shot .25 calibre in the past and have had rifles set up at 18fpe, 30fpe and 70fpe depending on what I was using them for.

Whatever energy is achieved by lobbing appropriate-weight pellets at about 950ft/s.. with the caveat that IMO you'll see significantly diminishing returns above about 40ftlb as this starts to stretch most guns and they become increasingly inefficient.

fx, rti, agt, and others aren't stretched at 40ftlb? They go far above and beyond that?

Also around 850-900 which you can check with the Chronograph you are going to get to ensure the gun is most efficient

The power output depends largely upon the pellet you use and the weight. The limit on traditional style pellets seems to be around 900-950 fps so then you are limited by the length of heavy pellets which will fit your magazine. If you go for slugs you can expect quite a lot more power depending on, again, weight and ballistic performance. If you remain at sub sonic velocities that will limit your max power as supersonic velocities are likely to be problematic once you reach a range where velocity slows to transonic and subsonic.
A .25 may well be more efficient than a .22 but may have less projectile choice available. Don't forget more power needs more air. I have seen a .22 FX King giving exceptional results at extreme range, Simon6ppc on youtube would be a good chanel to have a look at.

I've recently dropped down to around 57ftlb. Im shooting lighter slugs at around 975fps. In .22. Supposedly less windy! I was at around 70ftlbs with heavier slugs, but they are thirsty.
Simply put, you can't have FAC and mess around with ammo and not have a chronograph. It takes an age to get the fps right for the ammo. Once you have it you can do what you want.

I’m new to FAC air and c.28-30 ft lbs at .22 with 15.89 JSB at 890 - 930 fps unregulated in an S510 is mind-bendingly good. So accurate and none of my 22lr worries on a permission out to 50 metres.

Hi i have 2 fac .25 air rifles i shoot using 25.4 grn jsb/AA pellets both rifles are set at 46 ftlb ie 900 fps and are very accurate past 100 yds if i raise the velocity above 900 fps BOTH rifles lose accuracy tune the gun to the projectile! Another way of getting more power is using heavier pellets however more wieght means less velocity and a more loopy trajectory. If you up the power for heavey pellets your air usage goes through the roof. i have been told by guys at the club 33 grn pellets will hold accuracy upto 950 fps! I have dabbled with slugs but as my m3 impact and V2 vulcan both have choked barrels which clog up the rifling. More power doesn't mean your rabbit's are more deader 46 ftlb is plenty of power i have been shooting rabbits at this power for six years and at present have had nil runners! farthest rabbit 91 yds so far! Using a zero at 50yds 100 yds is three mildots hold over also the 25.4 grn pellets at 100 yds still retain 21 ft lb.

Power preferences is rather subjective but after years of having both i tend to run my .22 fac at around 36ftlbs and my .25 at 55ftlbs. The .22 does out to 70 yards and my .25 stretches a wee bit further, basically overlapping with my rimfire. At the end of the day with power adjusters etc... you could just have one fac airgun to do it all but were would be the fun in that. Pellets to around 890ftps and slugs as fast as you can. Have fun and enjoy shopping.....
