Been to the range today and apparently there's been some drama in the UK bench rest scene.
UKBR has lost (apparently a bunch) of competitors who are starting their own Benchrest GB competition.

All the info I got was third hand so just wondered if anyone here had some more official / accurate info.

Or, you know, inaccurate but juicy gossip 😅

There have been a few posts on Facebook, no idea what the spat is, but the old group were warning everyone that the new group isn't the official group 🤷🏼‍♂️

But I assume the group with the majority of competitors would have to become the official group?
Especially if the majority was large …..

I’d be interested to hear more about this situation.

Well, entirely hearsay of course but from reliable sources...

There have been a number of, lets say, 'irregularities' with the way certain competitions have been operated which have benefitted the core group of friends at the heart of the scene, at the direct expense of others. That has reached the point where it has upset enough people along the way that some of them have grouped together to start afresh. The number of people involved immediately with the new org speaks volumes.

From what I have observed myself, I've been unwilling to join in with the old lot's competitions. I am much more likely to participate in the new, though I don't have the time at the moment to commit.

There's no smoke without fire.

Ive heard similar disgruntles on the ever reliable faceache 🙄
Although some of that was from a lad i have a lot of respect for. Quite rightly he didnt air the full dirty laundry in public so i still have no meat on the bones.

From what i gather, rules were bent to favour the old boys club. Very very dissapointing to hear these sort of rumours when we are in a declining minority sport.

If faceache is only place to find news then it will decline even further, IMO.

It pisses me off no end when I ask about something, anything only to be told it's all on faceache.
Its just a chat page. Its up to individuals where they share information or communicate with others.
As much as i dislike it, there really isnt a better platform for likeminded people to get together on line

Real shame that people do that, and not suprised people have broken away if that's the case.

As above, no smoke without fire....

It'll be interesting to see which comp ends up on top - and which one official bodies end up recognising. The WRABF will only recognise one body per country for instance.

I can't personally see the WRABF position changing in the short term so those choosing to shoot with the breakaway org will forgo the opportunity to shoot in the Worlds for the time being, which is a shame. Perhaps if and when personnel changes happen and a culture of fairness and openness emerges there will be a reconciliation, who knows. Failing that, one or the other will likely eventually wither away just because there's not enough people shooting to sustain two competing organisations long term.

It’s a shame but fact of life that Id say all clubs, committees and organisations I’ve been involved with have their own agenda’s and favour, tis human behaviour just look around 😉

Do we have a name for this new group ?.
Not Faceache I do not have or want an account with them but would like to see what the new group are about.

I did wounder if that was them the site look quite new, will keep an eye on it, I shoot NSRA rules but always looking for something new

There's an awful lot of hearsay and conjecture on this subject, also lots of misinformation both on here and on FB.

I could go into the gory details, but as a sport we shouldn't be washing out dirty laundry in public, there are enough haters on the outside, without it beginning within.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, sadly often it is based on hearsay and occasionally 'spin'.

Let's just say I wish the new organisation all the best, I'm just very sad to be saying goodbye to some shooting friends that I'd made since starting benchrest.

To be honest that why I chose to ask the question on this sub forum rather than general chat or anywhere else. Figured this was the right place to ask.

I run a BR comp and have heard people talking about it at the range - but knowing How gossip goes - thought I'd see if i could get actual first hand info. That way I can counter any hearsay or spin, rather than add to it or speculate...

Unfortunately it seems the "dirty laundry" has already being aired to a degree and it's going to be a talking point within our sport for a while.

And as dirty laundry goes - something has happened that has upset enough people they have gone off and set up their own league. If that happened in any other sport it'd be a pretty major talking point.

Surely there is some wider learning that can / should be taken from the situation that will benefit the sport as a whole (certainly in the long run). That'll only come from discussing it....
