Recently bought a Beeman R1 in .177 flavor.
I think the R1 and HW80 are basically the same.
The seller advised me that when you cock the gun, the cocking lever pops out of the shoe when the barrel is returned.
Was not worried about it, as the price was right.
Now it’s home, I removed the receiver from the stock to get a better look.
Tbh, I don’t see any obvious wear on either…
I was wondering if the lever foot needs to be slid into the shoe sideways BEFORE the shoe is assembled into the receiver?
I will post some pics in a bit.

Might be worth upgrading to the newer style shoe if its still the older one fitted
. the new one runs on the cylinder rather than on the piston liner . You may need to dress they cylinder for burrs and maybe dress the shoe also so it runs smoothly.

You may need to modify the stock though as the newer shoe hits the stock on older rifles .
This is where m new style one hit the stock and would not cock. You need to remove a little bit of the wood . I have to do it with mine as i refitted the old shoe but i'm going to fit the newer one .

Good info.
The rifle is a 1983 according to the SN.
I fiddled with it and I did manage to get the lever to seat down in the shoe, but there’s about 2mm of up down movement in it even when it’s seated.
I don’t see any wear on the lever foot… blueing seems unworn.. but I can’t tell about the shoe.

Looking at the pics, there does seem to be wear on the shoe...

Where do I get the updates shoe from and do I need a new lever too?

I had a mishap when I was adjusting a trigger unit a few months ago, the rifle tried to fire while I was holding the barrel, arm popped out of shoe

It then kept pulling out as the shoe had been stretched, nothing looked stretched but it was knackered.

its an old rifle so may have had something similar, chuck it and get a replacement

Found the updated and old style shoe at TWC.

If I’m going into this thing should I assume it needs a new piston seal?
Any advice on spring replacements?

May be have a look at ARH Maccari , i think he still does kits for these .

There’s a good chance it’s all fine inside if it’s still pushing out decent power , the breach seal may well need changing now though .
