Hi All,
As per the title really. Im upgrading my Hik micro lynx 06 thermal monocular for no real reason other than i just fancy it. The hydra has sparked my curiosity. I only shoot 6 or so rats per year in our stables , and not that many more rabbits in the paddocks . i don't really need high end equipment. Sensible airgun ranges are as far as i will ever get. Currently using the Zulus V1 and have thought about the Thermnight option.
The thermal monocular is by no means essential but on the rabbits obviously very handy to scan the 13 acres of paddock.
Ive watched some youtube videos and it looks quite good. I realise it won't be top end ,but i would have a thermal scope to go along with the current Zulus Z1 with the additional benefit of being thermal handheld monocular .
I have to work off peoples real world experience as i have no real way of trying one as i don't know anyone who currently owns one.
Does anyone have any thoughts they would care to share, Thanks

I think there are few good reasons to go from NV to low end thermal, unless you have a specific use case.
I did, and hit more problems than advantages.

Separate decent thermal spotter and NV is just about perfect.

Yes id agree with that although id still have the Zulus NV , and if the hydra were any good i could use it as the thermal spotter on the occasions needed it with the benefit of a thermal scope.... But of course it may be poor as a scope and poor as a spotter hence the question posed. Technology is moving so quickly i thought id ask before i buy a new thermal monocular.
If you don't mind me asking what problems did it cause you?

Nope was hoping that the better R models would be released at the BSS but all DNT had to talk about was the 4k Zulus which was already released and that little red dot style NV 🫤👎 very poor show indeed considering that they are already on sale in the US.

The 650r looks decent!

After using the V1 and V2 Zulus plus a couple of older gen NV with rangefinders (ATN 4K, PULSAR DIGISIGHT) I won't use anything without now even my glass scope is used in conjunction with a rangefinder and has been for years nout worse than guess work.

Unless you use the hydra offered here as a clip on with a le 032 or are using it standalone where you've done your homework or have a fixed range personally I wouldn't bother and I'd go for either a oneleaf MT1000LRF or a nocpix bolt l35 as they would be not only better but of more use.

Shame really and stupid why they give us the crap unit and the American market gets the good one 🤷‍♂️

As old stock said low end thermal doesn't compare to a quality NV and hand held combo, a dedicated 640x512 with lrf then you might be talking 😁👍

Yes i had considered these as well, having the zulus "swayed" me towards DNT. Thanks for the advice!
