Anyone got a warco wm280 v-f lathe

The collar on the lead screw on mine is drilled with a shear pin , I bought it used and in the box of gears were three broken collars all snapped through the pin , unsure if this is normal ?

The shear pins are to protect the leadscrew from damage, it sounds like a previous owner has jacked the saddle into the stop block.

It's very "Not normal" shear pins are there to stop mistakes twisting screws and stripping gears.

When I got it the shear pins directly on the lead screws were both snapped, they were steel so it must have taken some force to snap them , I turned up some brass replacements and they have been fine ,it’s the one on the gear that goes through headstock on the other side where the change gears are I would expect the shaft to have a key in it ?

Don’t tend to use key and shear pins, no point having a pin if there is a key as keys are a boat load stronger.
Just had a look at one of the Colchester VS2500’s here and they use a shear pin as well (and they are huge)

Suggests the previous owner may not have known a lot about machinery and did a lot of crashing it.(hence the cracked collars)

So long as the bed is still straight that’s not a huge problem though.
