Alpex 4k lite sun glare

Bought one the other week finally got it on a rifle to zero today.

Only thing is pretty much can't see the targets, everything is washed out and I'm not even in direct sunlight.

Googled and have messed with contrast and wdr, no change. Also looked for sunshades but didn't seem to be one specifically on a google search. Should I just drill a hole in the cap?? Am I missing a setting?

The main purpose is the nv but would like to use it on the targets occasionally but not likely if I can't make them out in a but of sunlight.

Many just put a small hole in the centre of the lens cap to block out most the light... it works well TBH
Also just check your settings that you are not to high on brightness, in summer months i just put it on auto..
Me my self aint had to put a hole in the lens cap and works ok on auto settings..

Thought that might be the case, was just surprised at how washed out it was. The image is much better than my zulus but the zulus isn't as washed out in the sun at least what I have experienced anyway. Cheers

Digital isn’t good for targets, but a reduced aperture might help.

Yes a slight hole was drilled in the lens cap and it cuts that out, this is used on permissions,never had the problem then but occasionally like to keep it all precise on paper but as you say half the target dissappears, but not now , however when removing the cap to drill or screw etc the refitting of the cap is loose, redone on a new lense cap (£14) and the refitted is snug again

Yes as above regarding the hole in lens cap,also when setting up I make my own targets out off Grey cardboard as white is just too bright

Do as above but on the alpex like any other digital NV can you adjust the EV settings in the menu it may want adjusting just think of it like the iris in your eye close for bright open to let more light in…

I ended up doing this with a push on one so can just use when needed. Originally took off the hik cap to drill but not an easy one to remove ended up having to buy a new one and decided not to drill it because of this.

That was the first thing I did, but unfortunately in the bright it wasn't enough to compensate not for white paper targets anyway.

I’m suffering with this problem with my 4k lite. When I go to my local range in the evening the sun is washing my scope out. Does anyone know if the new Alpex Pro suffers from this as much?

I don't have a pro but would imagine it would have a similar issue with the sun just part of digital I guess. Need to look at tbe specs see if the pro has more adjustmwnt settings other wise a cover with a hole or a fancier adjustable aperture one will be needed.

I think this thread reinforces that these scopes are intended for hunting, not target shooting, so haven’t been designed to look at white card in bright sunlight.

I agree, I wouldn't really use it for target but I was taking it to zero when I realised how irritating it was to use on paper. And if it isn't zeroed it ain't gonna be used very well to hunt.

I tend to just use a plain old brown cardboard box to zero - start with one shot to give an aim point and go from there

I’ve got a Pro on the way. I’ll report back if it’s any better in sunlight.

Something that may or may not be of use that I've discovered both with the Alpex and the Habrok binos is that when you initially power them on, if you are pointing toward a bright target, they often get washed out and pretty awful to deal with.

I had a strange effect recently when out on a friends permission where I was trying to use the binos to look at some birds in the edge of some tall asparagus. The green of the asparagus was making it impossible to see anything in or around it, the green colour dominated everything. I turned the binos off and pointed toward the floor, then switched them back on whilst still being pointed at the floor, then found the colours to be much more manageable when I looked back up. I've done the same with the scope as well, having also pointed that into the very same asparagus, and it definitely helped.

Not that it's much help, but here's the wall of green I had to deal with, I thought I'd kept the washed out version as well, but this was after 'calibrating' against a more dull light source.

I get the impression they all wash out in bright light. Have one of these n 2 others. Seems par for the course, so I use glass during day n swap to NV when needed

What have you got your brightness setting on? During the day on my Zulus I turn it right down to 1 and use the lens cap with an 8mm hole. When out at night I turn it back to 4 and remove cap. Works pretty good in sun light. Then again I realise your talking about the lite and I’m not sure if it has the same settings in the menus
