AEA HP Max 9mm Air Rifle 😮😮

It’s classed as a pistol in the UK to my understanding. It’s not just total length, barrel length has a minimum as well.

Looks fun though 👍🏻

This goes back to the old pistol vs rifle debate again which is hotly contentious on this forum. There is reliable information that the 24" rule does not apply to airguns, in fact several commercially available rifles are less than 24", for example the Ataman BP17 (23.8").
However, to be on the safe side I have turned up a solid (non folding) section for the stock which makes the overall length 25.5".

It's absolutely brilliant fun, even at 6ft lbs the 77grn pellets hit a target with one hell of a thwack. I love different, quirky airguns and this one is most definitely unique.

After I posted I had a look on the AEA site and they are now saying the barrel is 13" if I remember right it was 12" when I first looked at this airgun so not sure if this makes any difference to the 6-12 limit. I'll have to have a dig on the net to see what's what when it comes to the law.
I may have to go back and have another think about buying one of these.
Have fun

I thought pellets for my .25’s were expensive. 9mm for 100 pellets your looking at £13-15. 😳

I know what your saying I shoot a .25 and the price of pellets is getting silly. I've thought about trying one of these moulds to make my own but those are quite expensive and no guarantee the rifle will like what comes out.

There are quite a few threads discussing the pistol/rifle debate (inc. barrel length) on the forum - you can read through them (if you have time!) and come to your own decision. Although I am going to fit the rigid stock mount, the opinion of a firearms officer that I know is that if it looks like a rifle and shoots with 2 hands from your shoulder then it's a rifle, one hand, arms length then iit's a pistol.

I printed a single shot tray to slow me down a bit as far as ammo goes, but since I'm an 'occasional' shooter and have other rifles, it's not so bad. There's loads of 3d files out there for these guns if that's your thing.

6ft lbs with 77grn is about 185fps, 12ft lns is about 250 so not a massive difefrence anyway. One of the things I like most about the AEG is using 'full size' ammo - it's great for my sausage fingers!

It's only money... 😂

I don't really do a cost/benefit analysis on fps per £ with my guns. I've got deacts that do 0fps and cost more than £1200 so they wouldn't fare too well!
yep everyone has different views and thoughts, I just struggle to get my head around it because I see all my guns as tools that do jobs with pesting and if they aren't capable of doing that job in my mind they are pointless (Just my opinion), but not everyone sees it like that and lots just like putting tin cans up and knocking them over and such like which I find bizarre lol, its whatever floats your boat, it would be a boring world if everyone was the same 👍👍👍

A Falcon FN8 has an 8" barrel and there's quite a few of of them about. The barrel length on the AEA is actually 13" but let's not get into the pistol/rifle debate here, there are plenty of threads covering that.

im not trying to derail the thread with that debate. I enquired about getting one imported and was told it would be classed as a pistol in the UK so would be set at sub 6 if shipped out to me.
There was one for sale on guntrader for 1k not far from me but didnt see that working well for sub6 or 12. Certainly looks fun though..

In my excitement, I made a mistake - mine is a mere .30 (7.62) but it is available in 9mm.
Pellets are 44 grn.

I have a 172 bore air cane ( .30/7.62 mm) and the mould throws round balls at dead on 40 grains. If I used it, I guess it would produce more than the legal limit . Being made circa 1880 helps on the possession front.

It most definitely is. The best way to look at it is at 185fpe it's a similar velocity to a paintball gun firing rubber balls. You can 3d print 9mm pellets that have a .22 pellet pushed into a recess. These should be considerably lighter/faster and I'll try them as soon as I get time.

It is actually 9mm - I was incorrect.

So, with a 14.5grn Superdome inserted, my freshly printed 9mm 'Prometheus' pellets weigh a featherweight 18.6grn and acheive around 360fps with the rifle in its 6fpe specification. Don't know about accuracy yet, will have to do some testing. This is REALLY good fun - I can make versions with .177 or .25 pellets inserted to get weight variations.

Cost of printing 29 pellets is .22p (plus the .22 pellets to fill them). 😊
