AAR Onair

I've only just started watching a few of Andys videos. Tbh he makes a good video. well filmed, easy to watch with a high production value. The content doesn't Interest me in the slightest but the vids themselves, id like to be able to make mine to that standard.

YouTube has given me an appreciation of what goes into making a TV programme too.

I couldn't do it. I have a face for radio. And voice for reading in your head. :p

I watch AAR and like any other person that on the tube that does an honest review of a product cough cough they must be believed surely not.
He is obviously an Rfd as he tests fac rated air rifles and that would be easily done of you have a stake in a shop.
Some times his delivery is like walking on broken glass and even though he has notes he still makes delivery blunders plus you can't pleaevery one, I don't like some of the kit he looks at.
Would be good to see something about second had kit.
If 3 or 4 tubers all say roughly the same about the same kit them there is an element of truth.

The thing is he once used to get his loaners from Drapers. And then all of a sudden he dropped Drapers and switched to Vector. If he had declared his interest in Vector from the get go then it would be alright. But he just presented it as a new shop. That he chooses to hide his association is what gives pause.

And it begs the question whether he used the connections with Drapers to build the relationships needed to get all the accounts with wholesalers to start Vector Air.

Personally I identified the host as a chancer. Get him in a real live gun conversation and he'll fall apart.

I'm far more interested in honesty and credibility of the host than fine camera work and good lighting, BAR, for example, seem to keep their filming costs below tuppence-ha'penny and, whilst obviousley biased towards the guns they stock, still come over as trustworthy and sincere. AAR(se) On Air talks down to his audience, he sounds like a primary school teacher reading a bedtime story (had me nodding off several times) and acts as if we dont all know that he is just a lacky for his wifes company.

Like someone else stated, you must take his reviews with a pinch of salt. Just like the ones in the Archent comics. In the magazines, people like Terry Doe will not say anything bad about any airgun or product because they are all part of the trade. With AAR he won't slag anything off because his buisness sells them. Just watch them for their entertainment value or to get an idea for yourself of something handles like and looks like. It's better than no airgun reviews. Just look what happened to Replica Airguns, the Canadian chap who used to do youtube reviews. (And he was good). 👍

I know this youtube channel is a bit Marmite. I used to enjoy his for beginners posts and found some of his reviews interesting.

Is it just me or is he running out of ideas with the repeats. PP700SA CP2
Totally agree. Aside from his dreadful presentation style and addiction to awful autocue delivery which lands all his jokes flat, he's just getting so incredibly repetitive and boring. The whole channel has also just become a front for the RFD business owned by his children and his Mrs, which he always tries to play down.

I used to watch his videos fairly regularly, but haven't for a long time. I find them boring, too repetitive, his presentation style is like nails down a blackboard and there's just nothing new or exciting, but I do accept its horses for courses and some will like the channel and his style, and any channel that shows shooting in a good good light and isn't all about American 2A culture, can only be a good thing. So, I can see why there's a place for him and his channel, it's just not a place I hang out in much these days.

I commented that you can buy the pistol elsewhere for £150 and he removed my comment.
I've had most of my critical comments removed or clearly hidden. I've looged in with other YouTube accounts and none of the comments are there. He clearly likes to be right and calls anyone who disagrees with him, no matter how politely, a 'troll'. He needs to understand that psplle with different opinions aren't trolls, they're just people with a different opinion. But arrogance can do that to many YouTube personalities.

Really miss his content on YouTube 😞

The "repeat" of a CP2 review may at least have had the benefit of drawing attention to a "cheaper" brand for those interested.

I started to really take his reviews with a pinch of salt when he was so complimentary about the BSA Lightnings. Afraid his experience was different from mine!

It is harmless entertainment as far as I'm concerned, and irrespective of the contents, he obviously goes about the production in a professional way.

As i said ,I've no interest in the content itself. I work with all this stuff every day,but it seems most people see the vids as pure advertising ,which they certainly appear to be.

That aside, the filming itself is good 👍

I do watch AAR. His style is professional and the show well produced. That said, the increasingly obvious product placement is becoming irritating.

Shockingly the same guns often pop up under different brands and have done for decades… if a brand launches a new model, it gets a review, it’s not rocket science.
Sure. But that doesn't mean the world needs another in depth review on the same gun by the same reviewer. It just becomes a conveyor belt of the mediocre.

When I last checked his wife was listed as the sole director of Vector Air Limited. She uses a different surname to his on the director info but it's defo her.

Yours are way, way better. You have a far better presenting style, your not reading off an autocue and you speak naturally. Your videos are really interesting and, for all the equipment AAR boasts about having, I don't actually think yours are any worse. AAR does something really odd to the audio, which makes them actually not all that pleasant to listen to on some headphones. I think it's the attempt to make it stereo or something.
