Hello all, I've recently been given an FAC Rapid by a very generous friend. I believe it's a May 2001 rifle and has been through the hands of some knowledgeable shooters... In this case I'm definitely paddling in the shallow end!

The stock has seen some action, and as a result I'd like to give it some TLC this coming winter.

I'm confident that the dents can probably be steamed out with a bit of patience, which leads me to my question: does anyone know what the existing finish will be? Knowing this will make stripping it and re-finishing just that little bit easier. I'll plug and re-drill the swivel holes and make it a paracord sling.

Anyway, thanks for looking in on this thread, and any advice will be gratefully received.

Cheers,

JRK

The dings will steam out. It's a varnish finish. I used fine wire wool, an old toothbrush and real turpentine to strip mine. I refinished it with Danish Oil. More coats, more shine. I'd recommend stopping at three coats for a satin finish.

Thanks Brooksy - I suspected as much, and it's a pretty thin finish too, from what I can tell. I'm thinking an oil finish will be good for this one, and have various sorts in my shed which can be used.

Nice rifle. Has power adjuster and mk2 stock. What power is it with shorter barrel

I haven't had a chance to chrono it yet but my friend told me that it was running at about 28.5fpe with AA Fields.
