Haha, my user name is from that very film and my obsession with the 92fI was more into WW2 stuff, Luger, PPK etc etc... but I did buy a 92F after I saw Lethal Weapon
I remember thinking how big it was compared to my usual pistols.. massive actually but it shot well and was much nicer than the Glocks that pretty much everybody else had..
Ha ha , I did wonderHaha, my user name is from that very film and my obsession with the 92f
A friend lost pistols worth thousands with the ban
Don’t, we need to keep remembering!Sorry, I didn't think my post would annoy people. There was informative thread here about 9mm models long time ago, that's why I thought I could get some info here. I'll shut up for now.
Got a few 7(3)’s, the hassle is proving your collection criteria and then having somewhere to keep / shoot them, I’m lucky that The Tunnel Target Sports Centre (section 5 and 7(3)) is only an hour away and they have 3 ranges so I can get the 25m all to myself when I go to use the 7(3)’s. Slowly showing them all on Only Pistols YouTube channel. Some of us in the UK can still have handguns but only up to a certain date of manufacture but they are still very restricted. in use and storage. Section 7.1 and & 7.3 .
Like this Browning.
I'm sure there may be a member on here and a few on the BBS with them .
It's funny, but the people of my dad's Viet Nam generation swore the 1911 was an inaccurate and a sloppy rattle trap. Soldiers and Marines of my generation said the same about the Beretta M9. In both cases, the users of the time were stuck using utterly worn out, usually unmaintained, half functional weapons stuffed with after-market, lowest-bidder magazines that might or might not run. A properly set up 1911 or Beretta is a joy to shoot. More than accurate enough for the CQB pistols are intended for and all day reliable. The Browning Hi Power, as iconic as it is, was indeed never a popular choice on the firing points for the "Service Pistol" comps here in the UK.
The problem with a lot of thewellusedabused ex military issue was down to the critical sear and/or hammer parts being rounded off, which would inadvertently cause the hammer to drop into the half-cock position when releasing the slide.
Shooters with bigger hands (like me) were also prone to a bit of "hammer bite" because the design of the H-P afforded for a natural high, deep hold![]()
I need to take the P226 and 92FS out to the desert and run them head to head. Whenever I take just one or the other, I'm convinced I like whichever one I brought the best.Used to shoot a P226 which was very reliable and never jammed, fantastic pistol. Always lusted after a 92f though but never got the chance to own one before the ban![]()

Nothing to be sorry about, it’s a nice bit of nostalgia allowing some of us to relive our pre-97 shooting daysSorry, I didn't think my post would annoy people. There was informative thread here about 9mm models long time ago, that's why I thought I could get some info here. I'll shut up for now.
Part of what makes the Glocks so easy for most people to shoot is the low bore axis relative to the grip hand. Also, the plastic, ahem, "polymer" flexes a bit in the shot cycle. I believe this really was a revelation back in the '80s. Glocks tend to return to zero for me very quickly and naturally.Nothing to be sorry about, it’s a nice bit of nostalgia allowing some of us to relive our pre-97 shooting days
My favourite 9mm was my Beretta 92fs. You’re right it had a chunky grip, but I liked that as I have quite big hands.
My range partner ran a CZ75 as his main gun, that was a nice pistol, smaller than my 92 but still very ergonomic.
You mentioned the Glock 17 being a bit punchy with recoil. As a lighter polymer pistol that’s likely to be the 9mm loads you’re using. There are plenty of lighter 9mm loads available these days. The 17 has a low bore to wrist offset which should enable better control of recoil?
I won’t deny that Martin Riggs and John McClane did influence my choice of a 92fsHaha, my user name is from that very film and my obsession with the 92f
