500cc air tank

As I’ve never filled a tank do you need to build the pressure in the whip before opening the tank valve otherwise surely the air from the tank will go the wrong way if not you sing the one way adapter obvs

Ok how u know ?
Because I had to replace a fill valve for exactly that reason. It’s a small compressor, it doesn’t need it as you won’t be running large amounts of filtration (assuming you followed the filter guides?) so any purge and restart wouldn’t take much to refill the whip/filter.
I have a 1.1 got it from best fittings in a sale years ago, where did you get the easy fill from? Do you have a link
Post literally says Ali-Express, reviews are variable though and as usual multiple sellers, don’t buy from the muppet on eBay who was trying to pass off a Chinese version as the Edgun version at £120 rather than the usual £30 odd.

Yeah was from Aliexpress, think I only paid about £15, I thought if it was rubbish I would just send it back, but to my surprise it works really well 😂

Ha 😂 the AliExpress link was -

‘4500psi Soda Drink Gas Filling Bottle 300Bar High Pressure Air Cylinder Aquarium Plant CO2 Tank Dive Oxygen Tank Thread M18*1.5’

Sodastream use 0.6l pressurised CO2 bottles/tanks and they look pretty similar to the ones in the link. I wasn’t sure if the Ali Express ones in the link, would turn up and be Sodastream metal bottles rather than the carbon ones.

Pressure vessels work on simple rules, a safe pressure working (PW), and a pressure high limit (PH). PW on the Ali bottles is 300bar, PH is 450bar eg 50% more.

Sodastream uses a M18x1.5 thread from memory, and it’s stated at PH of 250 bar which gives a PW of roughly 166bar. Even if you use them, they would only be able to be filled to 166bar, and in a world where 300bar and beyond is now common in high end stuff, it’s not really that useful. There’s no real market for old/used 232bar bottles now, so 166 is better left to making drinks.

The Ali express bottle is not carbon it is Aluminium, and make sure your valve and bottle are matching threads IE m18 or 5/8ths

The compressor itself will act as a one way valve (OWV) if you open the bottle first. If you open the bottle first (not using a OWV) then the compressor will be starting against bottle pressure, not a good idea IMO.

Best practice IMO without a OWV is to bring compressor output above bottle pressure, then open the bottle.

The Chinese bottle valve I have uses a OWV that bypasses the main valve entirely, as it’s direct to the pressure side.

With a Tuxing, its output is low enough volume that you risk constant piston cycling, now while China will likely use better quality pistons than FX, this is what happens:

In simple terms the piston anodising has been worn away due to constant cycling, the piston wasn’t straight any longer, and seal heated up and deformed (it looks better than it was). Part of that is FX’s choice of material/finish, which is why the revised part is better, but in reality the seal is the weak point and what killed it was direct filling with a Tuxing. Even after fitting the revised part, I chose to change the workflow form direct to each gun, to filling the bottle and then using that to fill each gun - only one piston actuation is better than hundreds.

With a Hills or Yong Heng, that wouldn’t be an issue as the output volume is significantly higher than a Tuxing.

I have a .75 litre tuxing bottle, fill port is direct to pressure side and has a owv incorporated, I fill this from my tuxing 12\240v comp, through filters, then fill my two PCPs from the bottle.
Seems to work well for me, and I have the bottle in a hardcase setup for mobility.
The bottle is 300 bar rated, but I give the tuxing an easier life charging to between 200 and 230 bar.
Running an S200 and 400, which seems to like a 175 bar fill, I'm happy, and can get a good range session from the setup, but I always take a springer for variety anyway.
My line of thought, (Muppet caveat), is that the rifles will receive better quality air from the bottle.

Very interesting, Alex. Never thought about that, but I ain't never had an itsy bitsy teeny weeny compressor.
