Cometa .25 owners. What pellets have you found your gun works with the best. I have one in .177 and that loves superdomes but what about the .25? Tell me what your favourite pellets are and also 2nd and 3rd choice if there are a few that group closely.

I don’t own one yet 😉

But have shot two different .usc25’s quite a bit, both owned by friends and one uses HNftt 20grn and the other guy uses JSB king and hades both around 25g I think

I use 20.06 grain FTT's exclusively in mine, the considerably flatter trajectory is a boon for me - only 4 grains heavier than the "standard" .22 pellet weight of 16 ish grains, and it's a bonus when shooting a bit further out.

No idea on the cometa Fusion, But in the 4 Hatsans i have experience with just use four pellets, Marksman No 3 .25 @19.2 grain, H&N FTTs .25 @ 20.06 grain, H&N Crow magnum .25 @26.25 Grain, and JSB Exact King heavy MK2s .25 @33.95 grains. These 4 stand out for me in performance and accuracy up to 45 yards.

Anyone tried the .25 hornet or is the pointy bit a gimmick 😉👍
Not used them much in my .25s just a few given not enough to say, but used them in .22 in Feinwerkbau 127 sport and they worked well, the brass tips are sharp and hard there was some seperation if they hit bone and rats were out of it with few kickers or walking forward after shot i would say very humane dispatch.
They were accurate too and i would say the .25s should behave similar H&N sport make good pellets .
I have used them in other .22s but never really gave them enough time to show one way or another if they work that well. i did finish off the tin in my .22 hatsan airtact PD which seemed to like them just fine, i only used a few in my AA S400 but remember it being accurate with them.
Its their on rat performance i think thats note worthy things stop hapening fast IME i believe they work fine for that job. let us know how you get on they are a nice weight at 24ish grain and i use H&N crow magnums just a bit heavier be good if they had same POI ish i would love a hornet .25 option.

Thanks for that Bud, I’ve 20.06 FTT, AADF 25.4, both work very well, the FTT are a tad more accurate, shot both at 25 and 35 mts with good, results, the 35 was just a see how they went 🤔
Normally 25 I would stick to when out and about.
Will get some and update, always good to have first hand recommendations 😉👍

Its rare i take rabbits with any air rifle ( i use rimfire mostly ) I do corvids some pigeon and mainly rats the odd squirel etc.
I use the .25 to 45 yards on rats if you work out the hold over they retain energy and i have done a fair bit of research and chronographed them at range and the retained energy at longer ranges is impresive they often get dismised as 40= yard air guns in sub 12 but really if you work the job out which you really should be doing whatever you are using the .25 is more than capable.
Its practice knowing accurately your ranges and having your kit set up to work at these ranges nothing different again to anything.
If you are roaming about taking shots at 8 to 45 yards you are going to have to be on your metal to be reliable and again practice.
I learned this on geese with steel in shotguns what starts fast slows fast bigger heavier retains energy hits hard and in the shotgun case patterns tend to be better initial speed is handy but its not everything its a balance of factors and big holes really do let cold air in.
The marksmans and FTTs in .25 work very well and if you are setting a rifle up for walking about padocks or sheds they are your best option, i use crow mags and king heavys but when i know a range a condition rats coming out of a pile of stock feed potatoes 45 yards away you need decide on the pellets and have it fathomed afore you venture out thats the key to hitting what you are aiming at i find, its facinating stuff all this and the efficiencey at dispatching i dont think they can be touched.
Get your POA/poi sorted the .25s balistics do the rest.

Do you find them a bit tight in the barrel? What sort of groups do you get with them?

Yes, they are a very snug fit (as is my .22 version).
I was getting .5 ish groups at 25 yards without any bother, but i shoot all my rifles a lot further out, so tend not to bother about group sizes so much.
My .25 USC is no benchrest winner, but it's just great fun using it 👍

I used to use the Rhino 19gr in .25 cal with very good results out of my HW80. I don't know if they are still available
but if so could be worth a punt in a Cometa.

Thanks for that Will. How are you getting along at the minute? Keep meaning to drop you a message and see how you are doing?

No problems, I found the Rhinos a very good pellet tbh.. The Eye operation failed, have to wait for eye consultant in the New year   see what else they are going to put me through...🫣🫣

Really sorry to hear that mate. I hope you get good news in the new year. I will keep everything crossed for you. I will be in touch with you shortly as I have a few guns I would like to overhaul over winter and drop in one of your kits into. Thanks for the heads up about the Rhinos. Will certainly give them a try.

Speaking oh hw 80s what do you recommend for them for a smooth shot cycle for a hw80 .25? I’m just about to take delivery of one. I know the piston has been glided on this one but unsure of the internals fully. Do you prefer longer weaker springs or shorter stiffer ones?

My MK1 80 has been breathed on by Nick Gibney, and part of the tune was ditching the factory spring, and switching it out for a longer & softer 97 spring - i can now cock the rifle with my little finger, and the shot cycle is sweeter than a sweet thing.

These have probably been around forever, but i recently noticed " I wear Blinkers LOL!" the cMilbro white Rhino .25s at 32grain, the old rhinos were 18/ 19 grain so white rhinos are significantly heavier, and heavier than i tend to use in .25s , however i do use 33 and a bit grain jsb king heavys now and again they work perfectly with H&N FTTs and Marksman no 3s in my 125 hatsan i just aim off the upright post tip in the reticule on the bushnell sports chief i have smack on poi at 3om with them doing that.
The White rhinos being ever so slightly lighter and noticably cheaper than the jsb king heavys could be a better option and i might set up my hatsan 1000x for them exclusive as my cross cattle yard ratter.
