Hi all,

I've been thinking about buying an FAC-rated .22 HW95 Luxus and would welcome any advice.

In particular:
  • What is the shot cycle like?
  • Can anyone recommend an FAC drop-in tuning kit?
  • How accurate is it (all things being equal, etc.)?
I like the idea of the 95 since it's (reasonably) light and I owned a 12 ft. lbs. version thirty years ago and liked it.

Thanks!

The 95 will operate smoothly around 14 - 16 fpe with weihrauch spring.
One problem, with UK 12ft-lbs limit is the same spring gets cut down and in so doing is made stiffer.
This is noticeable with the HW80, 23 OD spring, which is markedly different circa 270 mm than when reduced below 220, necessary to meet UK limits.
Note the OP is in New Zealand. For the UK it would be expensive going FAC just for the few extra lbs. A HW 80 doing 18 plus would be better option.
Regarding drop in kit. Someone in New Zealand should have the capacity to turn up top hat & guides, for less cost than postage from UK.
If not at kit from @WelshWilly , found in the Members Manufactured Section. using his Dagda spring, supplied full length, will produce necessary power. Coming at a length of 280 mm the 34.5 coils. allow for plenty of tweaking, top hats/ power washers etc. before getting near coil bound.

They're designed for FAC, shot cycle in .22 will be sweet...about like a 10# .177.
Vortek it. It'll be more accurate than you.🙂👍

I live in the US and have the FAC aka full power version. Insides are factory original and although I have a new/old stock PG2 kit from Vortek, I haven't seen a need to install it yet. Only mod done to it was a Craftsman Vit Ocean Grey Laminate stock.
Took about a tin and a half of pellets to shoot it in and get the factory twang out of it, but shoots it's favorite H&N FTT 5.54 grain pellets at right around 15.5 fpe and the shot cycle is a very nice, twang free solid thump when firing.
Random suggestion but if you buy one, just shoot it for a couple tins and let everything settle in, then decide if you want a kit or not. If nothing else, you'll get a very good feel for how it shot before and after the tune up.
My own HW95 .22, Craftsman Vit stock and Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 in BKL rings:
HW95-CV stock 2.webp

A good friend of mine runs a Beeman / weihrauch hw 95 .22 at around 15 ftlb on his FAC and I have shot the gun and can say the cycle and accuracy y is bloody marvellous !! Fast shot cycle super accurate too has a certain noise about it hard to explain like a ping .. he shoots rabbits well over 50 yards regular with it .. Lola like a propper farmers gun now but does not fail on performance and accuracy at all

Nick @Tinbum will be able to sort you a kit (if he can ship to NZ that is) - my HW95 .177 shot lovely at about 14 ft/lb.

But, if you’re going to the bother of getting an FAC power springer the HW95 seems a little bit pointless really as it’s not far into that territory and won’t have some of the associated benefits of higher power.

I wouldn't do it personally, the newer 95s are not as good as the older ones.
Been down the route of fac rated springers/gas ram.
FAC pcp is wheres it's at.
(my opinion is based on personal experience before the HW groovy gang chime in 😂😂😎).
But each to their own.

Hi all,

Thank you all for your comments, advice and suggestions. I'm off to work shortly so will have a more thorough read later in the day.

I'm looking for ca. 16 ft. lbs. power but don't want the added weight of the HW80, and I don't have a firearms licence, which you need in NZ for any PCP air rifle.

You'll get a comfy 16 lbs., in spades, with a .22 HW 95.👍🙂
