Poor form from the ambulance control team,, My Gramps (95) fell whilst getting to bed,, his wrist alarm didn't work (or he didnt activate correctly??l and he was found at 08.10.

He'd cut his head and was unable to get up, Ambo called at 0830..

Repeated call backs throughout the day to be told he's next in line when one is available..

Eventually an Ambo from Somerset arrived at 2340..

I can't be angry at them, they do a fab job and are under immense pressure, they explained that the day shift did NOT pass on his details during handover, despite many calls !!

He was taken to hospital, thankfully nothing broken but im annoyed that someone of his age was left for so long especially as he'd already been on the floor all night, 27hrs in total..

His case is far from rare these days but it seems bonkers to me

Sorry to hear this Mike and I hope your grandfather’s recovering from the ordeal ok.
I’d certainly be asking some very specific questions from your local A&E management team.

You are lucky they came at all. . .

Almost four years ago I slipped on some ice in my garden, fell badly and knocked myself out.
I don't know how long I was unconscious for but it was probably only for a minute or two.
When I tried to get up, it was apparent that I had also injured my shoulder.

Feeling groggy and in pain, I crawled back indoors and called for an ambulance.
Their response: "If you are well enough to call us, you are well enough to get yourself to the hospital."

Despite suffering from concussion, they didn't and wouldn't attend.

I found it difficult to clap for the NHS ....... especially with a damaged shoulder.

No comment, but I hope he recovers quickly 👍
Thanks mate

My friend’s father fell last month he waited just under 26 hours for the ambulance. Then when he got to the hospital they all waited almost 9 hours to get him in. What can you say both the ambulance service and the A&E are trying
9hrs😳 fortunately Gramps was seen dammed quickly, the NHS is under immense pressure and do their very best, its the Ambo control I'm fuming with,,

Thanks Clive, despite longing to join Nan, he's in pretty fine fettle (health wise) considering his age,, he is a bugger for NOT drinking enough water though which doesn't help his low blood pressure, they think that is what caused the fall.

A shocking response

Thought it was bad for my mother who's 78 and in pallative care for cancer and had to wait over 5 hours after the doctor visited her and called an ambulance when she got a urinary infection and became dehydrated and delirious.
Then spent 2 days in a cubicle in A&E before they found her a bed even though the docter had got her a bed arranged at the hospital

Ask yourself who has allowed our NHS to reach this state of affairs

Then vote against them
To be fair, if they had all the billions in the World and an open cheque book, they would spent it on more bonuses / non jobs / trust manager leeches / stupid expensive criminal procurement making folks millions.

The thing is broken and no-one has the will or nerve to tackle it head on because it is dear to all the population.

And I write this as someone who has had a lot on contact and a few ops in recent years, and also has friends and relatives in the NHS, all at the coal face, all say the same, as do Nurses when you are in hospital and have a chat in the quieter moments.

A massive cull of all sorts of desk jockies and scammers would be a start, but they are deeply entrenched and any attempt at it will be all "Tory Cuts" etc.

If Labour were in the next week, it would be the same or worst, that is the sad truth of the matter.

ATB, ED

hope he has a quick mend I live three streets from ambulance station might as well be 300 miles thanks again to money spent in the wrong places

The decline of the NHS has being going on for many years regardless of which party is in power. Overpopulation, medical science keeping people alive much longer, underfunding are just some of the reasons. It will be a very difficult task to put it right now. Better to put it to sleep and start again.

I hope he recovers quickly best wishes to him and you. This is what we all have to look forward to if we are lucky enough to live a long time.

Maybe the government will find a way to check us out early!
