The difference a piston seal can make

We’ve (nearly) all been there, built it, perfected it, got bored then sold it. Then at some point bought another and started again 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’ve had 2 99’s, 2 95’s, 2 97’s, a 77, 2 Ultra’s, 2 Xocet’s 😂

I like a project, tinkering, building and air rifles are relatively cheap to do that with, I’ve never lost a lot, just recycled money. It’s all good fun and keeps the cogs turning, plus I need something practical to do as my job isn’t.

I’m slightly fancying another 97, and/or 99!
You can never have enough HW97s.

I know why I haven't had one before. Just the weight
And up to now, I'd have possibly said 1 was one too many.
Time will tell whether I gel with this one, and to be fair, with this stock, it's the first Weihrauch springer that I don't feel the need to put an aftermarket stock on, but I'll always prefer break barrels, given a choice

Depends on your use I guess, for targets or static hunting they’re no bother, particularly with a sling for the latter. But they are a lump, no doubt.

We are all different and better for that fact i believe, i do like break barrels but tend to lean to underlevers. I do like the HW97KT stocks even in plastic pig they fit most folks pretty well kind of the Remington 1100/ 870 wingmaster of the air gun world. LOL!
The synthetic acctualy ballances that shade more to my liking being biased that bit more up front not near enough mind and i add weight in that tube thing they fit on the 97s.
My Walnut sporter 97K 2001 is possibly better overall needing even more weight up front which does increase the total weight some but its balance point is near spot on IMO , i will be making a hamster and furniture for it which by the time thats added and a few more washers in the weight it will be perfect. Ps i shoot prone a lot and as such i am more tolerant of mass than i would be roaming about hunting with it. Like i said we are all different.

Thats right , and they are a lump to crawl up on a rabbit with in the damp grass, there are better options but on a pluss side you could be using an LGV LOL!
That is a bridge too far... Be positive.

If I get on with it Sam, I reckon I'll have to fit a sling

I cant get on with those 'thumb hole' stocks mate they dont lend well to thumb up for me and my hold, they seem to push my wrist down and trigger finger to the lower edge of the blade, but thats just me.

do love the 97 though! They tune well and can shoot decent groups, ive hit 25mm spinners at 60y 8 out of 10 times at the club easy,I agree they are a bit heafty but they are easy to shoot well because of it.
I feel they can be a bit snappy due to the 300mm barrel in .177,if they had gone 350/ 380mm and used a different slimmer muzzle end they would be even better i think, shame its such a big job to swap barrels to test my theory! Maybe one day ill attempt it🤣

A 77K has a 370mm barrel doesn’t it?
Give or take, but thats a 77,I was talking a factory 97 with a longer tube(other than the mk1) i suppose its the same thing at the end of the day👍 just no muzzle weight like the 97.
As for attempting a swap, its quite involved to do so maybe a barrel length that isn't available in the sister rifle my be more worth it?

You can get a 97 long/full length, too - there are a couple of those green centenary edition ones on GT.

I don’t think the weight difference between a 77K & 97K is that much due to the extra barrel length on the 77 being similar to the mod/weight on the 97.

Its not the weight id be interested in its what it would do to the shot cycle, the 97k can feel snappy ish with 300mm barrel, a 77 long is nicer but they are a harpoon of a rifle to handle with a 470mm barrel.

Maybe a 400mm barrel would be a good middle ground? The .177 95k/80k with the old 410mm barrel is the sweet spot for those rifles for handling and cycle,so the assumption is this could work on a 97/77 venom used to chop 77longs down a bit and they knew what they where on with

77K is the nearest factory offering to what you want I think then, particularly with 25mm internals.
Ive had em all multiple times🤣
Plus where's the fun in that? Something the same but different just to see what happens is much cooler but I will concede not always enough to make it worth the hassle!

Hi matey
I agree about the stocks. I'm a thumb up shooter too, and you can't shoot like that with them, but like I said, for standers, they're very good

Not sure where to place my hat on barrel length
It would possibly be better with a barrel the full length of the muzzle weight, taking out the moderation chamber, but that means using a 77k barrel and a 97 forend unit. Something I just don't want to do now. It really needs a 77k action as a base.
I'd say the shot cycle on this is very similar to the last 77k I did (and that was a belter). Possibly even better and that may be down to the VMach internals. As yet, I just don't know. I'll get there though

You may be right about the trigger. I can feel the serrations on the blade, much more than any HW I've had before. That could mean my finger is on a different position on the blade. Not sure what I'll do about that, but it could be adding to how I'm interpreting trigger let off, so again, I'll have to look at that some more
