How to remove this cocking aid?

Just picked up this HW80K and would like to remove this cocking aid. I thought it would be best to ask advice before going gung-ho.

The barrel has been shorted so I assume there’s no dovetails underneath.

It looks like there may have been a grub screw that’s been drilled out?

Heat how hot? (heat gun or blow torch?) grips? (not sure I want to try twisting), Mill some slots down the length?

Thoughts or ideas welcome.

Thanks

It's hard to tell if the grub screw has been correctly drilled, as above heat, unless u want to keep the cocking aid damage free pair of grips to twist and remove.

i see the hole i can't see the barrel so what is in the hole and if that something is a damaged grub screw twisting of the that adapter is going to damage the barrel 200%
not my rifle do what you want

The presence of an (empty) grub screw hole would suggest that is is more likely to be bonded on rather than threaded, so as above, apply heat, but go carefully.

Hi all. Looking at the barrel end it may be threaded as well. As above, I would heat it. I would clamp the barrel between two blocks of wood in a vice if possible then heat the cocking aid untill a bit of smoke is seen but personally I would turn it anti clockwise to remove in case its been threaded. Take your time and apply torque steadily but firmly after heating untill it moves. If it doesn't move with reasonable force applied, heat it some more.
Cheers
Chris.

if the hole is free of a grub screw that would be good but the picture still do not show me the barrel
maybe it is glue in the hole but why the hell would you glue it on when a nylon tipped grub screw or just a nylon grub screw could have been used

Hi,
It is tricky to tell without seeing it in person. I have marked up the photo you took of the barrel end.
Where the red arrow points suggests it is threaded on, but....
Where the green arrow points looks like it might be the end of the barrel suggesting it is slipped over the barrel??
So as other have said apply heat and see if you can move it with a protected hand. Try it counter clockwise whilst pulling up gently first.
Rich

I think you need to check that the grub screw has been fully drilled out

HW barrels are 15.97mm OD
Measure the OD of the adapter, take away 15.97mm, then divide by 2. That should give you the wall thickness of the adapter
Check the drilled hole to see how it corresponds (remembering that the centre of the hole, is deeper than the outer edge, if its been drilled with a normal HSS drill bit

Once you've cleared any remains of the grub screw, lots of heat until you see smoke coming from the front and rear of the adapter, which will indicate any glue present is melted. No smoke = not enough heat, or no glue
Its also possible its been knocked on and is an extremely tight fit

As long as you've cleared the hole, it will come, but you may have to resort to physical means to get it off, which might damage it, but it went on, so it'll come off

It doesn’t where someone has filed the dovetails to fit it on 😭

Where did you measure the barrel from?you say its has been shortened? but it still has the front sight dovetail? They nomally are chopped from the front as its very hard to get the barrel out of the breach block to shorten from the breach end?

I think you have a 410mm(16') k barrel there not 310/350mm (12/13') you think you have👍👍
I think you may have not included the breach block in you initial measure up,measure from where the barrel 'breaks' from the cylinder to the muzzle👍👍👍
Also, the front sight may well still attach perfectly fine it looks like just the 'humps' have been filed but the groves are still there

Yes you’re right, rookie mistake I measured from the front of the breech block (I have an early HW77 and someone gave me some measurements from the same place when I was checking mine).
