Happy Saturday fellow shooters.

Picked up a Katran CB in .177 last week, and wow, what a looker in the flesh.
So far I have put through 1000 odd pellets, of all brands, sizes and weights etc. I have found it groups pretty well with a couple of flavours of pellets, but it will have a POI shift and quite a few random flyers sometimes mid group (shooting 5 shot groups around 40 yards). I currently am running it without a mod and 2 sections of the baffles removed and I have checked everything is tight and also checked for pellet clipping which I can’t see any ecodence of. I have noticed the magazine is showing a bit of wear from the pellet probe I think and also it was a little bit tighter with me single loading pellets.
It’s getting around 20-25 FPS spread over a magazine.
Has anyone else had any of these issues and if so how did they get sorted?
I am considering sending it back for warranty, but not sure if I should go through the retailer or direct to Airmaks?

Your contract is with the retailer. AirMaks is not obliged to help you directly (although he probably will).

Check the barrel grub screws are tight. My Krait was not great out of the box, someone had neglected to tighten them 🤔
As far as I can see it’s only 1 screw and it was already tight. Appreciate the suggestion though 👍

Replied to PM but posting here for the search engine hits

Krait barrel is secured by 4 grubs, 3x 3mm and 1 x4mm, two of these are located in recesses next to the optic rail mounting screws, these are 3mm, the last 3mm and the 4mm are hidden under the cheek piece riser so you need to pop that out of the way to locate those.

On the Katran the barrel is only secured by two grub screws, a 3mm and 4mm, located at the front edge of the optic rail.

If you are doing anything that requires the barrel out such as changing a breech seal etc then a key thing to note and this applies to ALL AirMaks rifles is that the 4mm grub has a flat base on it, designed to align with flats on the barrel, this should always be the first one to tighten when reinstalling the barrel as provided the barrel is close to the correct position, this grub will square it up properly, you can then tighten the 3mm grubs to finish the job.

I had 2 katrans both very accurate and so well made.

These are generally the classic signs of the breech seal in the barrel being worn.
But if the gun is new, it (seal) shouldn't be worn out yet... 99

I can Zoro my Rifle remove Scope and 3mm and 4mm grub screw from barrel clean barrel up and replace it and scope and shoot point of impact just the same they are great rifles bought mine 2 years ago never missed a beat superb

Mine would shoot thumbnail size groups at 50yards.you could plink to about a 100yards where we had bells we could hit and did regular. And I'm only an average shooter benchrest
Also I would add if I used one for bench rest again I would get a fitted stock and not have the folding one.as I think this would help to get bet grouping or doing your club competition cards.

Don,t think it would make much difference to be honest i think bench rest is down to the pellet i.e 16 shot bulls eye 17 shot a flyer i find benchrest a pain you invest in the best equipment rifles ,scopes, rest, and then you find rifle and equipment spot on and then guess what you are in the arms of pellet manufacture good luck

I've felt that disappointment but still keep trying 😆

To be fair to my surprise the folding stock doesn’t seem to affect it off the bench, I shot some really good groups indoors from a bench earlier. One thing I did notice is that using a spare Weihrauch silencer I have (not purchased one for the Katran yet) the groups were terrible and had POI change, so either the pellets are clipping or it just does not like that particular silencer 🤷🏻‍♂️.
I am looking at a Hugget Atom or something of similar size but hoping it will not affect the accuracy like my long HW100 silencer.

Just to add my experience... I had a CB and it was a brilliant little gun, but I found that the standard mags weren't great, and occasionally seemed to give me the odd flyer. I bought Carm mags and a single shot loader, although just used the loader and no issues at all.

I did find the Katran to be quite a sensitive gun, and it didn't seem to take much to fluff the shot. If I did my bit it was a very capable gun and I would have another.
