I hope a easy question for somebody !

what pellet for .177 should i test my gun with to make sure iam legal !!!

The heaviest pellet i use is a JSB 10.34 run @705-715
The lightest 7.9 JSB run @800-810

should i be trying a heavier pellet to confirm iam within the uk legal limit ?🤔😳

Be useful to know what gun it is. A lot of guns are designed for the unlimited power markets and are not perfect for sub 12. The power is limited by fitting a port restrictor, this slows the air pulse tus favours the greater intertia of heavier pellets meaning if yours is most efficient with JSB 10.34gr you should try JSB 13.43gr.

I have found early AGT Uragan and current Airmaks Katran to have this characteristic.

Bisley Mags although heavier than JSB 10.34 are a different make and therefore can be lower power than JSB 10.34 even in a gun that is most efficient with JSB 13.43gr. There is no one rule for all.

H&N piledrivers are the ones I've had the highest fpe figure from in a PCP but they are an extreme example at 21 grain in .177, my qb79 gets about 11 with bisley magnums and about 13.5 with the piledrivers, I suspect they'd push most pcp's over the limit.

If heavily choked, piledrivers don’t make it out of the barrel sometimes! Have a look at the trend with JSB Heavies, with monsters and beasts.

(Sub-12, monster and beast accuracy is terrible compared to heavies though).

I've never had any (meant to be sub 12) PCP that makes more power with a pellet heavier than JSB Monster 13.43gr.
The only gun I've done extensive chronograph work with was the qb79 as I was converting to how and messing with springs to get somewhere near 12, could be there is no choke in the barrel.

FX crown mk1 2019👍

Bis mags, AA heavies, HW magnums, then keep it to low 11 ftlbs with the most efficient. Don't neglect lighter pellets though. AA pellets tend to be a softer alloy and can spring surprises so try AA Express.
Thank u ,it’s actually AA express that i use ,din’t think they where different !good to know 👍

Nope, sorry - not an easy question. right now I have about 20 or 25 tins of different pellet types - head sizes, brands, weights etc.....and I even have a couple of barrels that none of them go well in :)

The easiest way is get down a range, make friends and use 20 of their pellets from each of their tins, or as someone already suggested - get pellet sample packs.

When you find the golden pellet.....buy lots. :)

Like @Nords I love the mk1 crowns.....the early one I had even had different reg washers than other mk1;s :) Worked very well and in the end was a lovely hunting set up....
