Should we make country music the new pop music…

I remember back in the 90’s there was an MTV Country Music channel, and whilst not my favourite genre, this was good stuff, and for a while Imdid get the impression that country music was actually taking over as the new pop music.

What happened to that channel?

MTV stopped a lot of their services.

MTV officially discontinued its 24-hour dedicated music channel in various international territories, including the UK and Ireland, on December 31, 2025. The closures included MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live due to declining viewership due to the shift to streaming services, as well as cost-cutting efforts by Paramount.

Ive been creating a lot of music recently. I like anything from Country to Rock/Pop, Alternative, Gospel. All sorts and sometimes like to mix genres up a bit. The alternative/ Rock, New Age and Celtic stuff has been doing really well lately.

Im on Spotify, Apple and Amazon etc as well.

If your a Scot, you may like my interpretation of William Wallace and the Battle of Sterling Bridge:

It all depends on what type of country music you mean. If you mean the likes of Miley Cyrus, the short answer is "NO definitely not, no way not on your nelly me old mucker", but if you talking the like's of Wild Rivers then yeah I'd be able to cope. They're much better than what would be considered nowadays.

Just think the world would be a better place, no more balaclava clad e-scooter riders bombing it around town listening to “drill” music, instead a world filled with Stetsons, cowboy boots and horses 😂

Just saying

Hmmmm, not entirely sure redneck Yanks are a good model for a safe and stable society.

Country, Folk, Blues all excellent

I can't be listening to anything too modern that's full of attitude but apart from that, my music tastes are quite varied ...... Girls aloud, Chas and Dave, Guns N' Roses, The Shamen, Livin' Joy, Baby D, Norman Greenbaum, Gretchen Wilson, Brothers Osborne most proper old Motown and of course - this absolute classic 👌🙂👍 ......
