Back in 1973 when I first started prone target rifle shooting the first rifle I used was a BSA Silver Trophy, I soon moved on to a Martini 12/15, shot in lots of competitions with it as a junior and even got 100ex100 with Eley club at 100 yards with it, Eley club was then I think 75p a box and it was a real box no plastic in sight.
Anyway a couple of days back a good friend visited the range after a long illness. We caught up on the last 8 months and how he is then he said oh I have something for you to try.
He got his Mark 12 out of the bag and let me go back to being a 13 year old lad again, still a delightful rifle ,I think ACO club also had some falling block Vickers rifles but the BSA was always my go to.

Great stuff --i shoot eley club it is around £7 a box these days!!!!

Yes I now use an Anschutz Match 54, sat in a Walther KK200 stock. My rifle shoots Eley Match well at all 3 ranges, I used to use Lapua Scoremax at 100 yards but I cant find it any more maybe for about 15 years since

im using a cz super-match mainly shoot eley club-and SK rifle match red and black box --but that is getting hard to get hold off around here --i sometimes sort the batch for rim thickness that has proven effective

Bradford Stalker near Chester-Le-Street often has SK Match and SK Long Range Match in stock. Have you tried there at all?

They never have it --only closest place i can get it is down in Darlington DAB shooting supplies when they can get it --it doesn't last long in stock

The Scoremax my andchutz like for long range came in two weights not a sight of difference but the heavier was great at 100 yards.
It was always a case of fone across to Beverly to see if the dealer had any and if he did go and get 500 ss that was my limit to buy at that time.

That takes me back to my early shooting days. My dad was a member of the local club (Uckfield HG) and I started shooting prone with a 12/15 in 1962 (aged 12), the following year I was introduced to fullbore shooting, first time out, using my dads P14 .303, was a 900yd competition at Bisley. All went well and I finished about mid field. I've shot all my life, smallbore, fullbore, all sorts of pistol disciplines, Muzzle loading, gallery rifle, F-class, air, etc. I've had a lifetime of fun, now mostly shooting from a bench with a scope, but still giving some of the youngsters a run for their money. First shot in the Sussex County team in 1973 and now 50 years later, shooting in the county BR team.

Here's my freshly repaired International Mk3 - as you can see it's a full leftie setup. Lovely to shoot.

Is that a Tasco scope? I had the chance to buy one them quite cheaply a few years ago, but had no use for it at the time. Oh well.

They are a wonderful rifle. Once when I was being coached by Barry Dagger he said to me if you could sit a martini barrel on the anschutz action you would have a winning rifle.

There's a name from the past.. Interestingly enough, I had a brief chat with him quite recently about air benchrest - still shooting, well into his 80's I think.

Yes I bumped into him at Halfords and then a few days later at East Kirkby aviation museum.
He has some hilarious stories, the funniest I thought was when asked if he has a preference of regiment to go into in the army, and the looks he got when he said Coldstream Guards

🤣🤣. I was planning on visiting East Kirkby on my way "Up North" over the Christmas period, unfortunately they were not open. I've been before but always an enjoyable stop off. I have a daughter who lives in Tetney.

I would add the that - you would have a job to beat the Anschutz trigger.

There is a (relatively) new chap at one of my clubs who shoots a Martini BSA with open sights that he’s had for ‘several decades’ he still makes some very pretty shapes at 50m.
Still a very accurate rifle after all these years and so simple and reliable. 👍🏻
He is very Yusuf Dikeç, no fancy gloves, jackets and only his prescription glasses he makes it look very easy! 😉

I have a BSA Martini International MK2 that I use for a bit of benchrest and my son has a MK3 with a big bit of glass on top for the same, superb rifles! Mines getting a bit of a makeover at the moment to make it a bit more suitable for the bench, thinking of 3D printed/aluminium reinforces stock.
