Be aware if selling goods for cash

With PayPal there us a risk that the buyer will raise a complaint and then have their money refunded. . This will leave the seller with nothing. No money and no goods either.
Good general advice on face to face as paypal will refund if buyer raises a dispute and there's no proof of delivery from a courier of some description.
Don't think they cover air weapons tho so pointless as a seller to take the hit. They buyer gains no extra cover for using it.

Presuming that a lot gun sales will be in person, I find it best to use PayPal friends and family and actually watch the person process it on their device. Item is never released untill I see the transaction come through and I can shift it to my own bank.

I work in retail and cash is rapidly becoming a thing of the past so my staff not spotting fake notes is becoming more common, I am however constantly surprised at the quality of the fakes.

I would have thought the new plastic notes would be far more difficult to fake but most of the dodgy ones I have encountered would fool most people and usually only get clocked when banked

I don't want to derail the thread but every time I hear people say ' Cash is becoming a thing of the past ' it fills me with frustration & an amount of anger 🤬 as by not using it were basically digging our own graves regards having the freedom & privacy it brings without everyman & his dog knowing what your up too.
It's been my preferred way of payment since I've been old enough to own a wallet & I'll never stop for anyone.
We will all be turned into robots if were not careful.
I apologize if I sound somewhat old-fashioned but I'm afraid it won't end well.

I agree totally but it is happening unfortunately, I did the weekly banking for one of my managers last week and out of a weekly take of nine and a half grand only £350.00 was cash...

Pre Covid that would have been more like £3500.00 so it's a rapid decline

Yup, another fan of cash here.

I was in a car showroom a couple of years ago and wanted to pay a deposit for a car with cash.... only to be told, "We don't accept cash, sir."

WHAT.... ?
My response to that was, "Well, I shall take my business elsewhere."... and I walked out.

To Hell with them if they won't accept legal coin of the realm.

Agree with you Karl, always used cash since I started work but this is where it’s heading now. Cash is definitely no longer king!
A lot of people won’t entertain it any more, so many ways to pay without cash, checks etc. soon younger people will not even know what cash is!

I have a takeaway business.

Overnight, at covid o'clock, we went from taking 80% cash to taking 80% card.
I hasn't really changed much since.
I far prefer cash. Yes, there's a cost to banking it but i can pay my suppliers in cash and that cost is removed. Everyone still pays their tax.
There's a bit of a stigma that those taking cash are hiding it from the tax man. Not true.
If you take £100 in cash, on goods that cost maybe £35, you have £65 cash margin. Pay your bills, rent, energy, staffing, VAT, repairs etc etc you might be left with £25.
If you pay that £100 into the bank, or take that payment on card, it'll leave you with £24.
It might be only a 1% fee, but by the time it's at the bottom line it's reduced your profit by 4% vs a cash payment spent elsewhere.
Scale that's up to a weeks takings and it's a big hit.
That cost needs recovering so prices go up. The only winner is the payment processors.

Cash only for face to face for me. The fakes are getting better but they can still be spotted.

Keeping Cash in circulation is absolutely critical...the Demographics of the UK have changed more than enough for me thankyou & I feel more alian the last few years living here than ever before in my lifetime 😔.... perhaps some will say I'm in the wrong century but I bloody liked it fine the way it was thanks very much ☺️.

yup, exactly how I do my transactions, stand in front of the person and show them once the payment has been made, wait until it lands in their bank account and deal is done.

Karl, mate, it must be a bit of a pain moving it around under the mattress to get comfy for a decent nights Kip 😂😂😂👍

Blimey, the new plastic ones are really difficult to detect….

It was easier when they were made of paper, you could just tell with the weight and ‘feel’ as they never got that bit right.

I just don’t bother with cash now. I even buy chewing gum with my phone! Cash is no longer king.

Nothing personal Jay...but it's a bone of contention with me.

In the Building trades 80% of people I bump into.. whether it's on site or in merchants... prefer it.
