Hi all
I am pondering a new gun as the above title
What would people chose in 177

HW100 with a Ratworks aluminium cylinder (without the regulator). Gives you about the same weight as the X (I’m sure there’s a comparison for exact weights), and if the new reg can go in the ‘old’ action then I don’t see why the shot count wouldn’t be identical as well
 
The 100x is just a factory version of what people have been doing with the 100 for years either through tuners like ratsworks or by themselves.

Personally I'd save the money buy a cheap £500 2nd hand unit get it tuned and have money left over for a decent scope.

The 100x is nice but not the money they are asking nice.

Having a quick google a new KT is £960, and a non-regulated Ratworks aluminium cylinder is £140. An X KT walnut is £1360, so you’re £260 up immediately (but granted, down on the shot count). That £260 is a decent chunk of glass, or a bottle, or a lot of pellets
 
HW100X is lighter, better shot count, but more expensive and some teething problems regarding leaks are being reported.
HW100 is therefore heavier, worse shot count, but cheaper and well proven.
The X is not really a "new" rifle. It's a long overdue upgrade of the existing one.
Virtually everything apart from shot count and balance is exactly the same. Yes, the launch S model gets a different laminate stock and ambi safety but you can get adjustable laminate also on the old one.
If you want one now I'd get the original and push the dealer for a good price as they may have issues clearing the old model out of stock.
 
I have had two "old" HW100s for years. They are solid, reliable and accurate.

I was tempted to sell one of the old ones and buy a new "X" just for the joy of updating to a shiny new rifle but was instantly put off by the tales of leaking, etc..
Also, the new X isn't exactly a giant leap forward in the evolution of the gun. . They have certainly missed a trick by not introducing the cocking lever being interchangeable from right to left. Homer face palm

My lovely old HW100s will be staying with me for a while.

IMO....the HW100x Sporter in forest laminate (full size) is a stunning rifle to both handle and shoot. Quite different to the regular HW100’s. If you can afford one, I’d go for it. If not, I’d buy a used HW100kt. With Weihrauch HW100’s, you cannot buy a bad rifle.

These are all approximations as others will differ slightly due to pellet weight and ft/lb. The standard 100k used to give me about 60 usable shots, the 100S used to give me about 90 usable shots. I had the 100K tuned, and fitted a ratworks cylinder with reg, taking it to a 250 bar fill. This gave about 90 usable shots. I have a 100X sporter now. This gives 200 usable shots off a 250 bar fill.
I agree with @Bumblebum, i think the sporter in forest laminate is a stunner, but it's all about opinion. Listen to the opinions, and use the facts to choose. You cant get better than going to a RFD and trying them all, and TBH you're halfway there already by going with the 100 in any shape or form. Just an opinion again but i think they're probably the best all rounder out there.
Others will have a different opinion but 50% of the British public are below average intelligence;)🪖

Same here, I bought the 100s back end of last year and have been over the moon with it 👌
I do like the look of the new x version to be fair and will consider buying one but perhaps not just yet. I don’t have the cash apart from anything else. The reviews on the x have been excellent up to now, so definitely worth thinking about if you have the money.
The original model is still worth a punt and a lot cheaper!

I don't know about the Carbine versions but they will obviously have a lower shot count than the full length versions.

My two (full length) are fully sorted and are returning 9 to 10 mags on a 200 bar charge.
They are in .177 cal and running at about 11.2ft.lbs.
10 mags is 140 shots.
9 mags is 126 shots.
 
I bought a second hand HW100 and it’s been faultless, the way I see it is you could buy a new stock (or secondhand for that matter) and send it off to Ratworks for a similar rifle for less money? Shot count wise I’d go for the full length but it all depends on what you want to do with the gun?

The 100 with the ratworks cylinder is a nice balanced gun to shoot freeeeee and :cool:
 
A fare few saying they have leaks but no one has said where the leak is from ? .
 
With the X out and selling all over the place, bound to be some hw100 coming up for sale as people will change to the new gun. I shoot with someone with a kt and it's a nice bit of kit. Can usually find guns with decent scopes that suit the gun as a package saving loads for pellets and petrol plus sandwiches
