Gonna get me a vpn.
Sorry,must have been asked before...
I'm not very tech savy,so I just need it to be easily downloaded and very little else to do with it.
I did have one many years ago when I lived abroad which was part of a package with the broadband...
So,which one is best value for my dosh,baring in mind what I have said above about ease of use.
It does look as if most are best value if on a 2yr deal

What I will say is that the one I had all that time ago slowed down the speed somewhat.
All answers would be appreciated
 
I use proton VPN I’ve not noticed any slowing of speeds and works well I’m just using the free version which works great for my needs and is easy to use I put it on when in need and off when I don’t with a simple press of a button. also I pair it with the brave browser. The brave browser is great for stopping annoying trackers and adds especially on YouTube without having to pay YouTubes subscription.


Somethings to consider that a lot of people are unaware of when using a VPN

What a VPN does:
  1. Hides your IP address
    Websites see the IP address of the VPN server, not yours.
  2. Encrypts your internet traffic
    Your ISP, employer, or local network can’t see what sites you’re visiting — just that you’re connected to a VPN.
  3. Bypasses geo-blocks and censorship
    You can appear to be browsing from another country.

What a VPN doesn’t do:
  1. Doesn’t hide what you do from websites
    If you’re logged into Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc., they still know it’s you — VPN or not.
  2. Doesn’t stop browser fingerprinting
    Sites can track you using things like screen size, fonts, extensions, and other unique identifiers.
  3. Doesn’t prevent tracking cookies or scripts
    Ad networks can still track you unless you’re using blockers or privacy-hardened browsers.
  4. Doesn’t make you anonymous to the VPN provider
    Your VPN provider can see your traffic — that’s why choosing a trustworthy, no-log VPN (like Mullvad or Proton VPN) matters.

When I was searching for recommended vpn'sProton came out top with uk.pcmag..Thanks for replying too
 
I use ipvanish which does what I need, the only advice I would give is whichever you go with check auto renew is disabled, I made that mistake and it auto renewed a lot more expensive than I wanted to pay.
 
Has anyone tried the TOR browser? I installed it on this laptop a few years ago. It works as a browser but never tried it on the dodgy sites. I use a KODI box for that.

While it can be used to access the dark web, which some may associate with illegal activities, the browser itself is not inherently illegal. "
 
Nordvpn or Surfshark are the only two I have considered in the past. They are pretty much always the top 2 in reviews although not the cheapest. Big discounts on NordVPN at the moment. Works on all my devices including my Firestick so great for watching Netflix in other countries on your TV.

NordVPN also now comes with a NordWhisper VPN protocol which makes your connection look like a regular connection (allegedly) so sites that typically block VPN connections can’t tell. Not tested this myself yet though.
 
The way I do it doesn't use a VPN. But I will say this, I can watch all the US channels including their Masters golf coverage and MLS, all their sitcoms, films or what ever else their freeview has to offer. I also do this in Australia and other countries.
When there's nothing worth watching on UK freeview, I flick onto US and there's always summat to watch.;)
 
Top three already covered - i don’t think you can go wrong with any of them if just basic functionality.

I use Surfshark - interested to try proton though.

I looked at TOR but mainly use iOS which TOR doesn’t work with. Orbot is an option for iOS but was flakey to say the least.
I have no experience of it on Android or MS
 
I presume the OP meant it was for Windows OS, I have had no experience in using anything other than Windows browsers but I thought I'd mention TOR as an alternative to a cheap if not free work around.

Microsoft edge browser has a built in VPN ,you just have to activate it,
 
A lot of anti virus packages also have vpn options, eg: bitdefender, so you may already have one if using ant virus software?
I've used cyberghost in the past but it was slow and they kept putting their prices up, so ditched it.

Most of the premium ones have the option ,but its a paid upgrade.
