Classic Cars? You must be joking

Excepting a few motorbikes and my type 2 VW Westfalia the one I think about letting go most is my Escort XR3 POV 551Y. Note not the injection version the earlier somewhat raw one, there’s not much more fun you could have on four wheel with “only” (by today’s standards) just over 100bhp.
However it may be yet again rose tinted spectacles as although it ran like a good’un I sold it as at the time as it had a couple of welding repairs in the floor and a bizarre paint fault in the Strato Silver on the near side rear qtr.

The XR3 was a faster car than the XR3I, i had both over time, XR3 had a short 4 speed gear ratio compared to ther 5 speed XR3I 👍

I once owned a little Renault Dauphine bought Sec hand for £70 in 1964 , fab little car and if you can find one now for under 6 grand, good luck!

I hated my Sierra 1.6. Slow, heavy and boring.
I loved my 2.0 GLR Sapphire. Ex Firearms or something, non standard quad discs and ABS, remnants of the machine gun rack in the boot. Bloody great car!
5 FORD SIERRA SAPPHIRE.webp

I like the cars from my youth, it's called nostalgia, I'd much rather drive an aged car that I can actually fix myself than anything modern. ... I missed out on a Marina 1.8 super estate in the same hateful shade of brown and the one my dad had.... I wish I'd been a bit quicker off the mark!! Lol

I can understand stuff like Capri 2.8 or 3.0 cars worth money, Cosworths, Lotus Carltons, yno stuff that was good in its day, but if you've got a beige Austin Princess then it's best for it just to die in a field somewhere or become a Chinese washing machine.
Don't keep it to torment future generations with it's horrifically ugly self.

Wish I'd still got the 1992 2.9 XR4X4 that I used to have.
The only thing it couldn't pass, was a petrol station

Got rid of it in about 1998.
In good nick nowadays, it would be worth a fortune

Great cars if you 'tuned' them up as they were 4 wheel drive basicly a poor mans cosworth, I always fancied one but never did get one, I was a bit too into Mk1 and Mk2 modded escorts. I had a guy walk in the workshop one day with one and he had just bought a sh cosworth bonnet and bumper and bits from just up the road from a friend of mine, and asked how much for a respray in pearlescent pacifica blue, So I gave him a price and he said wow thats damn cheap, so I quickly said ohh thats plus paint and materials so £1000 all in, We did that job on the side nice earner but the car did look really nice when it was all done.

I know a rally driver who had one plus the DAM4100 GTI.

Fochabers Andy Horne, who now resides in Inverness where he runs a engineering business will also be looking to be at the sharp end of the event, piloting his Dam4100 (Metro 6R4) with its exciting Hayabusa engine coupled to it 4wheel drive system ( I was told it was two Hyabusa engines and some other sources say the same ). After experiencing some early running problems at the season start Andy and long time co-driver Jim Howie brought the car home in a magnificent 1st place in this years Granite City Rally. Having started his rallying with the 63 Car Club and also being a previous winner of the Speyside he is hoping to claim the top podium spot again and put a smile on the local fans who have supported him throughout the years.

Changed it to a Jag V6

Plenty of YouTube videos of him over the years.

Mine was standard, other than I delocked it so it only opened with the alarm fob
Went like a scalded cat and drove like it was on rails

This was fast, unreliable, crap original components including a lot of the engine, but Christ was it fun, especially when it suddenly developed 350 horse power with no traction control and rear wheel drive

But this was the ultimate, well it was for me as a 27 year old, never crashed it either lol!!!

6 years ago I got fed up of driving everywhere in my work van and decided to buy myself a car, something the exact opposite of the van, so small. A Mini I thought, small and so simple you can fix it with a spoon. Plus a couple of bucket seats and some spot lights and I could have the car I wanted as a teen (before my head was turned by bikes). Then I looked at the prices! The absolute cheapest that were not an incomplete box of bits were north of £4000, and that was a 1000cc engine and a trim level that was at best spartan.

Second choice a Merc SLK, £1150 for 10 x the car (long story short I'm now on my second one and still love it)

One

One and Two

Then just two
