As a lot of you know I'm something of a hoarder of Interesting stuff. Particularly regards useful bits of wood..never throw plywood away ever..

Anyhow @Stevep got lucky.
He acquired a Steyr I built a grip set for a few years ago now. It was made with a particularly wildly grained silver grey laminate that I had stashed to use on something for myself.

Luckily I recognised the set straight away.
I felt sure I had stashed a few of the offcuts ,just incase.. I mean you never know right

Well it paid off as I had enough to get a new low profile cheek piece from to match the rest of the set... Bit of luck that a few years down the line I still had some spare from the original build

I'll tint it down a little to match the aged parts but never throw anything useful away

Yep, I’m exactly the same . I have boxes of round bits, long bits, short bits, square bits, all different species, etc, etc.

Getting a match, as you’ve done here is so important and rewarding too!

I've got a couple of barns a lockup a couple of sheds and 2 workshops full of basically random stuff.

It's mostly junk but occasionally it pays off

Yep, I've got loads of bits of wood that will "come in handy" one day - and they usually do.

But not always unfortunately, I’m the same as you and had a “ big shed” with stuff in it going back to 1973 when I built it. Year before last I had a visit from the Pikeys. I upgraded security and two weeks later I had another visit this time with an angle grinder. Some things are irreplaceable if in memory alone

My Dad was a bit of a hoarder but you could always guarantee that he would have the right size piece of timber or just the right screw to hand. These days I find that I have to buy an expensive pack of something when I only need the one and have to travel miles to get it.

My Mrs never goes near my/our garage due to my collection, she calls it hoarding but I don't understand what that word means

I am a hoarder I can’t throw anything away, I have lots of storage including a shipping container full of all sorts of items, I have realised that to stop my Mrs throwing anything away, I have got to get it in my sanctuary’s, my Mrs loves spring cleaning every bloody week, I wouldn’t like to guess what she had discarded to the trash over the years, I eventually learned the hard way to hide anything I want and get it in my storage places lol, the amount of times I have found something in my stuff that I have repurposed for projects is all the justification I need.

Yep same here, only downside with me is I also have a double workshop and guess what thats full up as well, now SWMBO wants to move to a bungalow by the sea christ only knows where its all go I will be in need of a few sky hooks I think

Saving stuff is something most of us do. Finding it, when we need it, is the trick that eludes me.

My wife thinks I'm a hoarder, until i walk in the garage find the required spare part or item to fix whatever is broken. Then I'm the marvel of the house for at least 5 minutes and then it's back to normal.

Are you even a proper tinkerer if you only have a single shed?

Sounds like mine. I could once get two cars in but then added a big woodworking bench and some stationary tools. Then when my parents got old and sickly then during their last days I started throwing things in there, it is crammed full.

I do have a lot of old wood in my lawn storage shed. I once cut down a big Bradford pear, then slice the bigger pieces of the trunk into boards, thats been about 25 years ago. I gave some away to the husband of one of my wife's friends, and still have the rest. Every year or so she wonders why I just do not burn it. I also have some thick, wide pieces of clear white pine, probably about 3" thick and 20-24" wide and three feet long. Rather expensive to replace. Back in the mid 70's I made a rather fancy wooden push train set for my toddler son, all the cars hooked together it was almost ten feet long. My grandson now 13 played with it and some others made from that batch of wood and my son said it is well stored for a possible future great grandchild.

I've got a 'shed full of shite' according to the missus, but at least it's my shed full of shite
