What measurement for range do you use and why?

After looking deeper into making full use of the reticle (with a mil scope) for ranging , I'm kind of swaying towards meters because it seems simpler in my mind.

I’m with you on this. I’ve always used metres it just feels normal to me. I’ve never really been one for the old feet and yards stuff. If you grew up in this century, metres and centimetres are probably what your brain defaults to like mine. If you’re an older lad (or a Yank), then yards and inches probably feel more natural!

Mils/MRAD lines up perfectly with the metric system, 1 mil is 1 cm at 100 m, so everything scales in a really clean way. MOA is based on inches at 100 yards, so it fits the imperial way of thinking much better.

So if your head works in metric, a mil/MRAD scope generally makes life easier and zero in meters (the superior measurement system). Now just await the abusive responses in disagreement to come flooding in, but deep down they know metric is superior 😂.

I'm of that age when I grew up with both, so can happily switch between Imperial and Metric without too much bother.
Plus in the UK, there are still so many examples where we still use both. EG: MPH and KPH, Litres (milk) and Pints (beer), etc, etc.
In shooting we still talk about power (mostly) in ft/lbs, so.....?

Surprisingly, I found that not to be the case. Nothing actually tallys up to 1" with MOA, however MOA does provide a more precise adjustment in the number of clicks needed to dial elevation and windage.

More for the long range shooting that Americans do. However mil is always preferred in competition shooting because it's quicker to dial in less clicks.

I drink in pints - especially wine from countries that use centilitres.
I drive at miles per hour in a car designed and built by engineers and a manufacturer that use millimetres, centimetres and kilometres.
I shoot yards a gun from a manufacturer that uses Joules.
I have a nine inch dick.

All because I'm Made In England. 🤣

I was looking at how you can range a target by knowing it's size at any magnification with ffp or (normally) 10x mag with sfp and a mil scope. For e.g

A 14cm target measuring 4 mil dots on your reticle. Be accurate to within a tenth of a mil.

(14 x 10) = 140
140 ÷ 4 = 35 meters

Or in imperial the same 14cm target measures 5.512 inches

(5.512 × 27.77) = 153.07
153.07 ÷ 4 = 38.3 yards

Interesting

I use a Laser Range Finder as that is my choice , others can do it any way they like.
