Hi,
I have a porta-aim, which i really like. I also have a rest bag - cheap amazon jobby- that i enjoy shooting from. Springer shooting, i rest my hand on the bag and the rifle on my hand. Seems to work well.

However, being a cheap amazon jobby, after only a couple of months light use the soft cloth bag top is wearing through.

What better quality bag rests are people using?

I use the BSA two piece little and large. They provide a lot of flexibility in terms of height between them.

As an extra, here they are, stacked and with a Porta-Aim, too. Both being employed with a little Ultra to help me zero a new scope by keeping the whole rig rock steady. 🤣

Same BSA bag as above, does what I want it to. Filled with cat litter which needs topping up occasionally as it gets crushed.

(y) Yep, ALDI cat litter. Got a massive bag for not much more than a couple of quid and is better than organic stuff like rice.

There are possibly better options that are more expensive - some use beads - but that bag of cat litter is so big it will probably outlast my shooting life. 🤣

I’ve got one of these. You can use it vertically as a rear rest with the Porta-aim

It’s super light and fits in a bag pocket really easily

I asked a similar question on a bench rest Facebook group but for a rear rest. Cheapest recommendation was just short of £200 a real eye opener on what some people pay

I use the Caldwell tackdriver good bag but try to buy it prefilled because its a right pain in the arse to fill and im always having to top it up once the rice settles after each session😡

I found one of these one day out walking. Must have fell off a shooters vehicle.

Depending on what you fill it with it can weigh a lot. The one I found was full of barley or wheat.
A1 decoy sold them as did some others.

Jack Pike ones seem good quality, had a small one for years, you want the thick Canvas or Cordura type ones really.
But theres Caldwell, Milbro, Nitehawk, BSA, Smart Reloader, Birchwood Casey, Buffalo River, Protekter, etc, etc.

Plastic beads v cat litter v sand v rice....... any opinions on what's best to fill bags with please?

The one i found was full of barley or wheat so it was very heavy, Also a risk due to moisture .

If you have a plastic injection company near you , You could ask if they have some spare beads.

I got a large bag of it years ago for my Niece as she was making soft toys out of kids baby clothes and used it in them . We used it in making contact lens so any that spilled on the floor had to be binned . It was used to make the molds for the lenses.

Equifix.
This. I’ve got got a few shaped shooting bags but then started using the small one of these to travel light and between that, and a porta aim for bench, I haven’t looked back. Fantastic build quality.

Being a cheap skate I bought 3 different size doorstops from B & H or British Home or similar, ready filled with heavy stuff, carry handle on top, also useful for satnav, camera....
