So all you 25 metre benchrest shooters.
I'm considering a new rifle.
The short list is
TM1000
Blackwolf
Redwolf

What would you choose & why?
All real world experiences shared would be most welcome.
Thanks

Do you mean just general target work but shooting off a bench, or actual benchrest (BR) eg: shooting a card of 25 x 2mm bulls trying to score 250?

Never heard a bad thing about the new tm1000, I had an older one and the guy it went to is putting in excellent scores with it too. They’re a lovely gun. I’ve just put a .22 redwolf into swaps as I just can’t get on with it, it’s a lovely gun but for me I’d have a tm1000 over it all day.

Well I am new to Benchrest . First thing I did is join Benchrest GB loads of advice by top shots , I personally have RED WOLF GP some others have RAW TM1000 , HFT 500 and many other make , lot depends on your budget , There is a lot of thing you can do to improve your accuracy like a decent front rest and rear rest , you need to read the rules so you know what is permitted, I personally use a SEB front rest and SEB Rear rest unfortunately all these extras cost money , but you far better getting a good one some members would advise you on the best, don’t wast your money on rubbish false economy, so first contact BRGB and Speak to the members BRGB also run event for new comers the also have postal competitions and competitions around the GB

Of those three, I only have personal experience through ownership of the Red Wolf. Accurate, reliable, consistent, adjustable stock (not suited to everyone) and with an excellent trigger. I would quite happily compete with one, more so with a more target-focused stock/chassis.

Dedicated BR250, Steyr Challenge over everything you’ve shortlisted.

Having said that, I don’t know the TM1000 that well, but I’ve owned Daystates and whilst they are superb guns, I wouldn’t say they’re BR focussed.

Decide if you are going to shoot NSRA rules or those followed by BR GB as that might determine your rifle. Without an adaptation a HFT 500 isn’t allowed for GB Rules

Search local clubs first too, I live in Cambridgeshire and they all follow NSRA rules as they belong to CTSA. Not much good following the GB rules if all your local clubs are NSRA

I had a Redwolf and it one holed at 25 yards, I sold it because it was so precise. I know it makes no sense but it was so easy to shoot with an amazing trigger it wasn't any sort of challenge. From a performance point of view it was amazing.

Hi Ristac, forgive my ignorance, why isn’t a HFT500 allowed for GB rules?

I shoot BR25 and from my limited experience, the Daystate Red Wolf, Steyr Challenge and Steyr LG110 have proven to be very capable and competitive.

if i was to start br250 would i be able to use my weihrauch hw100 in .177 ?
Of course but the question you should ask is how good would it hold up against dedicated BR rigs. Do you mean in competitions? In the past I used an AA S510TR, the best I ever scored was 237 but that could of course be me and not the rifle :)

My Red Wolf in a GP chassis, tuned with a Heliboard and shooting off a Seb Neo-X front rest and back bag was extremely good, easily good enough to be at the sharp end of competitive with many a 250 25x shot at 25m. A friend's TM1000 is a hair better I would say, as are the usual suspects like Anschutz, Steyr etc etc.

One thing to note, if you're not prepared to spend out on a 'competition' rest setup (or build one if you can...) for BR it simply won't matter which of those you pick as you almost certainly won't be competitive.
