What have you made.. altered.. or added

Just finishing rough sanding on my .25 Dominator Walnut stock- with the really fine sanding still to do- waiting on the oil based drier, hopefully arrives Tues, to then mix the Turps and Pure Tung Oil and see If I can bring the stock up with some thin layers- my first stock refurb. Plan to do a couple/a few coats over maybe seven/ten days then hopefully put the action back but then keep rifle in a lightly aired room for a month or so, instead of its gun bag and do periodic oil wipe overs for a month or so. Taking the sling hooks off, together with the factory laser etching- which did not think was a great feature.

Stock refurbishment advice kindly received from members on some of the current stock threads.

Looks like it's going well.
The side you've taken the etching off looks much better.
Looks like it's going to come up nice👍

I have just modded the pan and tilt arms on my Manfrotto tripod. They were too damn short giving a high gear type of action.
300mm of threaded bar was added to the original arms using a stainless steel threaded sleeve. The pan/tilt is now excellent and gives me much finer control. All done at a cost of a couple of quid.

Still on my stock - five/six coats in but might go back and try and re sand a couple of areas, for slight traces of the factory etch that I sanded off- just barely notice - my first stock refurb- Pops when mix applied but then dulls when dry.. but five/six coats in. out of an ongoing 25 needed maybe?.. plan to put action back 1 November- have no target fun gun at the mo. But would oil it ongoing for months yet- and not put it away- just leave out in light and aired room.. currently Tung Oil/Turps/Cobalt drier and Alkanet root- all thanks to forum thread tech help.. but as its Walnut and on recommendation most probably will source some Walnut oil and finish with that.. project was to try and make stock look nice and get rid of cheap etch work at the fore end that looked a bit poor. Only five/six coats in and after first one, all minimal finger rubs.. but while pops when applied, dries a little dull in places.. thirsty wood I presume. In the sun for a couple of hours yesterday with Georgie sitting on guard.

Didn't want the factory stock sling fittings so plan to just put a black screw into the hole in the sling fitting hole in the bottom of the stock, rather than try and make a walnut plug and might keep the 1.5cm stock butt assembly off and try and fit a thin black rubber pad or something as stock feels handier being shorter. Very long rifle- longer and heavier than many .303 Lee Enfield I think. Last pic shows factory etch work on the loading side with etch work that did not run true.

Orange Hatsan sling sown onto the gun bag, with a cut down Panther Tin lid, for this .25 H and N Hornet basher's gun bag...

Ok its not like its a HW97/TX200 or anything. Sanding project was to see what the Walnut may or may not come up looking like...

Steyr butt plate adapted to fit my EV2 prototype:

A few weeks ago I bought a Steyr butt plate assembly from fellow Cornish member @ged. Now I am a big fan of the Wegu adjustable butt pads, but I feel it doesn't look quite right on the prototype EV2 (and I detest the factory EV2 butt plate assembly), so when I saw the Steyr butt plate I got to wondering....................

The Wegu pad as fitted:

The Steyr butt plate needed a bit of work, it looks like the threads on the post that carries the shoulder pad section had stripped, a fix had been done by setting a couple of nuts in resin on the butt plate base. The downside of this is the assembly lost the ability to cant the shoulder pad.

So a bit of fixing was in order, with t\he first jobe being getting the resin set nuts out of the base, this turned out to be pleasantly easy by the simple method of threading a long bolt into the nuts and using a hammer to tap them out. With those out I made a couple of steel bushes that were a press fit into the post so that issue is now sorted.

The final piece of the puzzle was to knock up a couple of legs to attach the butt plate to the stock, so a length of silver steel rod, cut to length, drilled tapped and chamfered sorted that.

Fitting it to the rifle it looks the part and fits very comfortably too.

The beauty is there is no permanent alteration to the prototype, the Wegu assembly came out in one piece and is sitting safely in a drawer, the replacement assembly just drops in.

Recently converted to my favourite calibre .25 and also made a new rear vented shroud just short enough to fit in case, I must admit the extra volume of the 36mm tube really helps hush things up. Now I need a sleeve to cover the bottle 🤔
