What does shooting do for you!

For me, it's a great time to just sit quietly at the range and focus on 1 thing and switch off from the "day to day". It's not really a social thing for me.
The pest control side of my shooting is as much about just being in the woods / fields as it is about shooting. I can quite happily just sit with a pair of binoculars but shooting makes it matter more. I like the fact that, especially with an airgun, you have to think and act in a very careful, slow, controlled manner. It's a great way to learn about our countryside.
I shoot pigeons with the shotgun which can be a real test (for me) but I prefer the relative peace of airguns.

For me, it's an engaging technical hobby, but also provides really good community - here in the AGF but also the local club.
Never thought I'd be spending my weekend painting a communal space, but a project with a few quality people? What a great way to spend the back end of summer.

For me:
Shooting can connect you to nature, better than any other hobby.
Sometimes it can almost put you into a state of meditation.*

I have been fortunate to meet some incredibly knowledgeable and interesting people-some who I am fortunate to now count as friends.

Puts food on the table.

Saves umpteen songbirds from an untimely demise.

Saves myself and my neighbour a small fortune in birdseed.

Protects my Walnut and Hazel 'harvests' from premature plundering.

Helps keep a few local stables and farmyards Rattus free.

And puts a smile on my face when providing all of the above.

Big respect that you have such things as walnut harvests and hazel harvests.

Top harvesting right there. 💪

We were talking about this at the range yesterday.

We were all little boys a long time ago, who like playing in the woods and playing with guns.

Pretty much what we are still doing on our HFT course now.

Re living our child hood, forgetting the outside world as soon as you load that first pellet, gossiping and drinking tea, fixing, painting and generally helping out. Meeting like minded bods who like donuts.

Best thing I have ever done!.

More importantly "what has shooting DONE for me". Details can be saved for another time and place but some years ago i was in a very veey dark place when i was advised to take up a hobby. Airgun shooting it was and having that outlet and interest has pretty much turned my life around.

Sounds a bit dramatic but it shows the impact that small things can have.
