Right, I’m asking an honest question. I don’t want your favourite, that’s easy, I want you to tell me what you think is the greatest air gun ever made and your reasons why.

I love all guns, old and new. I’ve owned PCPs, SSPs, Gas Rams, Springers and CO2s. There is one above all others that I rate as the best air gun ever made.

Which one?

The Weihrauch HW97….

These things just go forever, don’t cost the earth to begin with and with tuning can be made PCP accurate. In fact, with countless custom parts available, there’s no limit to what can be done…or……leave it exactly how you bought it. It’s brilliant whatever…a stalwart, a damned good gun, reliable and accurate….

What you reckon, what’s the best air gun ever made?

For me it would have to be a springer for the relative lack of maintenance, kit and fuss required.

I think the 77/97, too. They just work, they’re dead simple, they’re incredibly accurate, they can do just about anything you’d want to do with an air gun.

I’d love to have said a break barrel as they’re lighter and as I mainly hunt that’s a big bonus, but I can’t think of one that is as versatile as a 77/97, and doesn’t need some form of modification. A HW95 in .22 comes close.

If I could only have one gun to shoot multiple disciplines it would be a HW77K.

Great call on the 77. I very nearly wrote 97/77 on my opening post.

All HW so far…..
