Hi all, I’m looking at getting my son a uk legal carry for him to use for work, something cheap but good quality, I don’t want to spend to much coz knowing him he’ll eventually lose it, he works on a farm that sell bird seeds and other such stuff, there’s a farm shop and he’s always unloading pallets, cutting open bags and boxes and cutting string etc, any recommendations would be appreciated.

Many thanks Paul

Carbon bladed Opinel is the obvious choice - available locking and non-locking and easy to keep sharp. When I still had the horse yard, I always used a lock knife as blades could get caught on baler twine and inadvertently close - might be suitable for your lad too and completely legal if only used in the course of his job, but obviously not EDC on the street or down the pub !

I’ve had my Whitby mint for a long time, it’s uk legal carry with a pocket clip, and although non locking it fits snuggly when open so I’ve not had it fold on me yet.

Id recommend either a Spyderco Byrd Tern .

Or a Sak 7

Not legal edc but an opinel no8 pruner would be excellent for those uses too .
