Soon winter will come, next week darkness will fall 17.00. It will be dark while leaving for work and dark when comming back home.

A few years back I made a suburban winter gun out of a Crosman 1701 Silhouette air pistol and turned it into a bullpup.

It just loves the £3.99 JSB Simply!

Back then I had some work in close quarter suburbia and wanted a non-takedown bullpup small enough to bring along while travelling by tram an bus/train.

Fits like hand in a glove.

The goal was a creation small enough to fit into a 50 x 30 cm tablet case in one piece, scoped.

Pen for size comparison.

It turned out fine, I but an IBM sticker on the softcase (since then fallen off) and nobody ever took any notice when I had it on the pull down table on the train together with my exposed laptop from a case on the floor.

Today I shot it at home outdoors..

Accuracywise it's typically possible to shoot 10 JSB Simply within 20 mm C-T-C indoors but outdoors, as today, 25-30 mm is more common, often due to one or two flyers.

It's a slow-shooter, starting out as an air pistol

Shooting a small, light wadcutter pellet at 30 meters outdoors is not ideal with just 6 fpe on tap...

The naughty part, above 6 fpe!

Luckily we have a legal limit on everything air at 8 fpe ME but in the UK I presume 6.0-6.5 fpe would be a no-no... 😛

That looks ace, but you seem to be running low on pellets

I always blame my dealer for this... 😋

Usually I used JSB RS for it but I had just discovered that the less expensive Simply worked just as good..

Back then Simply was equivalent of £3.99 when RS hit £5.80.

With badly concealed irony I asked the friendly dealer if he couldn't give me a discount?

To my surprise he said;

-"If you buy my whole stock, it's £1.99 - but you must take everything and l am not gonna tell you how many I've got - is it a deal?"

😳

-"Your on!", I told him and suddenly I was the happy owner of 48 tins of JSB Simply.... 😁😁

Unfortunately the dealer had opened all the rolls so I had to carry them out to the car in reused cartons, to the amazement of my surprised wife.

-"I'll take it, they were either very rare or very cheap?", she said...

What is its application other than taking it on a train? A Crosman PDW?

It's was a quite fun build and it developed into a labour of love. As all of those it turned out hugely expensive in the end, and surpassed my initial budget by some margin... 🙄

I reckon I dropped some £1100-1400 into it... 😳

Most expensive part was the spanking new Leupold EFR 3-9/33 VX-II, around £500 of the total cost.

Nowadays I don't use it as much as it deserves since I can use any of my 2 rimfires or 2 FAC air at 50 meters in my backyard anytime and with limited time to shoot now in the fall, the 4 big ones are often prioritized.

That's actually sad since "the small one" offers impressive accuracy at shorter ranges courtesy of it's Lothar Walther match barrel and a lot of shooting amusement dispite being just 6 fpe.

Smart little build

With the demise of GMac Custom parts, here in the UK, we're now at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of availability of parts for Crosman builds

That looks good- don't tell Keanu Reeves, or he might want to borrow that for John Wick five- Good to make unique or different things. 30 Metres - that's awesome.

Very nice.. using a different PCP (a rifle with longer barrel) and it could be a UK legal tactical thing.
Is the Grip area "off the shelf" parts?

Very nice, looks like quite a fun 'little' project :giggle:

I got the chance to purchase the 1701P to a bargin price from a over-stocked dealer but realized that I am no pistol shooter.

Otherwise I really liked it and it was amazingly accurate...

I began thinking if it might be possible to turn it into something more rifle-like but the 1377-plastic shoulderstock seemed boring, everyone else has those.

Then a few years later I stumbled upon "Rapid-70" located in Spain, manufacturing those bullpup stocks and I put in an order..

By this, it had begun...

Im not sure if you can transform an air pistol into an air rifle according to UK firearms law?

I belive the rear grip is sourced from some kind of airsoft pistol, the front one I have added myself and and its a generic one for any Picatinny rail.

True, everything bought from UK or US these days is a pain compared to the past years, before Brexit/Trump.

Where did you find that bag Johnny? I've been searching one for my pup but 50-60x30cm bags seem to be available nowhere.
