Thoughts on a .25 sub 12 PCP rifle for plinking?

Good day all.

I wonder if anyone can offer some practical advice on the expected performance of a .25 sub-12 rifle please?

I have a home range of around 30m, and was looking for a new toy, something a little different. I'd just about decided that a big loop trajectory of a sub 12 ft/lb .25 sounded fun. Not for hunting, not for target shooting, just fun on HFT targets, or paper.

This was the first time a shop has talked me out of a purchase, by stating that they recommend strongly against .25 unless it's in a FAC option.

I've no reason to doubt them, but it seemed odd, so wanted to ask if anyone here has experience of a bog standard PCP rifle at 30m in .25 please.

.25 sub 12fpe can be fun. I only had .177 in my collection for a good few years and fancied a change last year so added a .25 BSA Scorpion SE. It comes out for a plink in rotation with the .177s and gets used for the odd bit of pest control.

I can’t see why a shop would talk you out of it 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you're launching breeze blocks even, it doesn't make a difference - if you have hash marks on your scope, map ' em out & shoot.👍 Buy a .25 if it strikes your fancy.😊
 
Great calibre, i have had the 80 in .25, the Hatsan striker, & a tx200, the striker & the tx both shot well with marksman pellets so cheap to use, also great on squirrels, i only had to get it out of the van & they fell out of the trees, get one, but make sure its a springer....
 
Got a Kral NP-02 in .25 - yes it's loopy at 12ftlb, especially as the best pellets in it so far are JSB Exact King Heavy II at 34gn. However with a fair bit of holdover I can regularly hit golf balls at 60yds at the range with HN FTT at 20gn. Zero at ~22yds and 8yds to 25yds and it is only 1/4" either way on holdover (pellet width) with FTT.
 
I have a Hatsan 125 Sniper in .25, and it's fantastic! Zero at an appropriate range and blast away! My head tells me the pellets are only 0.03" bigger, but they look bigger than that, and give a solid hit at anything under 30 yards.
 
Good fun and perfect for up to 30, loopy the further you go but still travelling quick enough to not worry about the loop at shorter distances..

Great for plinking and an absolute belter for rats and ferals..

If your just knocking over target at 30m a .25 will retain more energy normally than the smaller calibres, but if noise will be a problem with the neighbours just remember you will need a different size moderator as well.

In the words of the advert, just do it.
Most fun sub 12 calibre there is(not tried 30 yet mind)
I've got .25 springers and pcps, you are welcome to have a try if you want

Never mind sub 12 .25 I believe you can get the Leshiy in 9mm (.35) sub 12 i wonder what that's like, anybody got one ? :LOL:

Anything feels like a toy against the 125 Sniper.
I also have one in .25 and .177 plus the 135 in .22...had them years.
Definitely not in AA class finish and finesse but far cheaper than a HW99.
Accurate, solid and dependable and I don't care if they get banged up in the field...unlike my Prosports etc
