Think this explains my Cometa ‘gritty’ trigger.

There’s been quite a few posts about Cometa trigger problems. I love my 300 but have always had an issue with its trigger. The first stage always felt gritty and left little control over its first stage of firing. I frequently had to apply more pressure on this first stage which would accidentally go straight through to completely firing without warning.
I ordered a new one from @Big Dan in case I further damaged the old one attempting a repair. I removed the gritty one today and found this 😬
No wonder it felt rough. Fortunately the replacement looks fine ... will find out tomorrow when I try it out 🤞

The 300 trigger is my nemesis 😂😂

Be very careful polishing as they are case hardened and you can bust through that very easily, some are half decent out the box and others far from it, even replacement parts vary.

Really nice how the trigger cassette comes out of rifle thats still assembled, they can be made better, be careful of angles and how much you take, also worth experiementing with is the spring and piston latching surface and most of your ‘feel’ will be where the blade moves on the lower sear.
As you know these 300’s have a really nice shotcycle and I’m sure if Cometa fitted the 400 trigger they would sell like hot cakes, the powerplant is so well suited to sub12 and why the 400 is shooting so well with less volume.

Mind you if Cometa did fit that trigger I could see the 300 taking sales from the 400 so a double edged sword 🤔

I know what you mean but there is no way those grooves can be polished out. You can see the blueish hardening on parts of the trigger but not on that grooved section. As the replacement seems fine I will work on the old grooved one. Can’t really see why the other part (right side of second photo) is made from 3 separate laminated sections riveted together. The edges of these laminated sections are so uneven and sharp I’m sure that this adds to the problem. Why couldn’t they have made it out of one piece like the other part to the left 🤔

The older rekord sears were laminated but they worked fine, must be the quality of the steel & tolerances.
