Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but if so it may be a bit buried as I haven't seen it. There is another online petition, this time in favour of honouring Alan Bates, the campaigner in the Post Office Scandal.

A Knighthood has been mentioned. Now while I am far from being a monarchist, I can think of few in my lifetime who have received that honour who have actually deserved it. Those who, in my opinion, are truly worthy of honours, tend to receive much lesser awards such as the British Empire Medal.

But if we are to consider what we were brought up to consider as Knightly behaviour and deeds, such as honour, perserverance, and defence of the weak and poor, please tell me if you can think of someone more fitting.

I agree he wants a knighthood.
he ought to get the one that the slimy bar steward Ed Davey is clinging on to.
as corporal Jones says "he doesn't like it up him"
34 times he's called for the resignations of various transgressors but when the boot is on the other foot!!!!

He turned down an OBE as couldn't accept that Paula Venables was awarded a CBE.

Apparently he has said that now she has handed back her award that he would consider accepting one on behalf of all the postmaster...

It would be fitting to re-offer an honour and it would be one in the eye for Paula Vennels.
Absolutely agree.

The question then arises, should Tony Blair have his Knighthood taken away as he was the one who granted just the £900m to fund the Horizon Software.

Then of course there's Lord Cameron who had time in office to review the matter, as did Gordon Brown.

Even worse, I read that Sir Kier Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions at the time and although this was a civil matter the DPP has authority to intervene in civil matters should they deem it necessary.

As usual though I suspect eventually all will get forgotten and it'll get brushed under the carpet.

Much as I despise Tony Blair and there are other reasons for revoking his knighthood - I dont think this is one of them.
Funding the IT system doesn't make him responsible for the implementation.

However, there could well be cases to answer in other areas - the 20 year timescale for this is nothing short of obscene.

Obviously the PO tried to cover to cover up their failings to start with - but once the scale of this and the fact they acted fraudulently themselves became apparent- the whole investigation should have been taken away from them at the time.

But given the abject failure of the met. police to investigate until public outrage as a result of a TV programme forced them to - you have to question who is going to investigate them?

Paula Vennels should definitely be jailed.

I suppose it makes as much sense as Jay Blades getting an award for services to Flat Caps.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I think it does, at nearly a billion pounds of public money which his government was administrating and being warned the system was flawed (assuming the memos were genuine) makes him very responsible.

And I completely agree with you, Paula Vennells should be jailed.

Signed.

I FULLY support Alan Bates and HE needs to be Honoured for uncovering the corruption of the Post Office scandal..

Well done ALAN...
